The assembly and dynamics of ecological communities in an ever‐changing world
Abstract Alternative perspectives on the maintenance of biodiversity and the assembly of ecological communities suggest that both processes cannot be investigated simultaneously. In this concept and synthesis, we challenge this view by presenting major theoretical advances in structural stability and permanence theory.

Abstract Within communities, species are wrapped in a set of feedbacks with each other and with their environment. When such feedbacks are strong enough they can generate alternative stable states. So far, research on alternative stable states has mostly focused on systems with a small number of species and a limited diversity of interaction types ...

Elevated TNF levels because of advanced age increase the expression of Dusp1 and Ptprs, which encode negative regulators of MAPK signaling. This inhibits the ability of alveolar macrophages to effectively respond to bacterial infection. This TNF‐mediated suppression phenocopies glucocorticoid immunosuppression, which has been shown to be mediated by ...

I. A. Bunin’s Story "The Cicadas": History of the Text
The paper investigates the history of the text of I. A. Bunin’s story "The Cicadas" (later called "The Night"), with all the surviving autographs, publications of this text, as well as the author’s later period notes on the printed copies of the story taken into account. All stages of the author’s work on the story are studied (cuts, editing, additions,

When can higher‐order interactions produce stable coexistence?
Most ecological models assume that species interact in pairs, but they often fail to predict the diversity observed in nature. One fascinating explanation for this mismatch is that interactions that only occur among three or more species (called higher‐order interactions) are crucial for the maintenance of ecological diversity.

Observation of Interplanetary Scintillation with Single-Station Mode at Urumqi
The Sun affects the Earth's physical phenomena in multiple ways, in particular the material in interplanetary space comes from coronal expansion in the form of inhomogeneous plasma flow (solar wind), which is the primary source of the interplanetary ...

Trophic tug‐of‐war: Coexistence mechanisms within and across trophic levels
We investigated a multitrophic community using niche and fitness differences from modern coexistence theory. We found that coexistence in lower trophic levels is driven by fitness differences, while coexistence is driven by niche differences in higher trophic levels.

The article examines the intertextual constituent of the short story by I. A. Bunin “The Case of the Cornet Elagin”. It is shown that Bunin’s short story seems to lead a dialogue with the novel by F. M. Dostoevsky “The Karamazov Brothers”.
