Far-from-equilibrium thermodynamics of the human uterus: A self-organized dissipative structure. [PDF]

open access: yesPhysiol Rep
Abstract The aim of this study was to know how the human uterine muscle behaves from a thermodynamic point of view in pregnant and non‐pregnant states. According to far‐from‐equilibrium thermodynamics, an open system is far‐from‐equilibrium when its thermodynamic force varies non‐linearly with its thermodynamic flow.

The Role of Chemistry Across Disciplines From Humanities to Life Sciences in Understanding Complexity and Emergence. [PDF]

open access: yesAngew Chem Int Ed Engl
This study explores the origins of life by linking prebiotic chemistry, the emergence of information‐carrying molecules such as RNA and proteins, and philosophical questions about consciousness. The study emphasizes the role of molecular evolution in the Central Dogma and provides insights into the chemical origins of biology and the basis of life's ...

Pleistocene Forest Stability Predicts Patterns of Frog Diversity in Central Africa [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Using high‐resolution paleoclimate reconstructions, we quantified habitat stability for Central African rainforests across 257 time slices since the early Pleistocene. Stacked projections of forest‐dependent frog niches identify both a large, continuous refugium and smaller, highly stable forest blocks embedded within today's forest cover.

Excess Thermodynamic Properties and FTIR Studies of Binary Mixtures of Toluene with 2-Propanol or 2-Methyl-1-Propanol [PDF]

open access: yesMolecules
Physical properties of the binary solutions, toluene with 2-propanol and 2-methyl-1-propanol, were measured at T = 293.15, 298.15, 303.15, 308.15, and 313.15 K and P = 100 kPa. The experimental density values were tested with the Emmerling et al.

La Nouvelle Alliance d’I. Prigogine et I. Stengers (1979) : mise en récit apologétique de la thermodynamique ou dialogue singulier entre un physicien et une philosophe ?

open access: yesRevue d’Histoire des Sciences Humaines, 2017
In 1979, the physicist Ilya Prigogine and the philosopher Isabelle Stengers published in French a book entitled La Nouvelle Alliance. Métamorphose de la science. Later translated in English, in 1984, as Order out of chaos: Man’s new dialogue with nature,

Thermoelectrokinetic phenomena in the convective plasma zone of the Sun and stars

open access: yesPhysics of Complex Systems, 2022
The study shows that electromagnetic phenomena in the convective plasma zone of the Sun and stars and the local magnetic field near the Sun’s surface are caused not only by the magnetohydrodynamic dynamo mechanism (Krause, Rädler 1980; Moffatt 1978 ...

Nested Selves: Self‐Organization and Shared Markov Blankets in Prenatal Development in Humans

open access: yesTopics in Cognitive Science, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract The immune system is a central component of organismic function in humans. This paper addresses self‐organization of biological systems in relation to—and nested within—other biological systems in pregnancy. Pregnancy constitutes a fundamental state for human embodiment and a key step in the evolution and conservation of our species. While not

Geochemical barriers as structural components of the geochemical systems evolution [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2019
The term “geochemical barrier” (GCB) has been widely used in the Russian geochemical literature as a key concept of the distribution of elements and substances theory (incl. pollutions)although in the world research practice this term is not particularly

Structure of penetrable-rod fluids: Exact properties and comparison between Monte Carlo simulations and two analytic theories [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Bounded potentials are good models to represent the effective two-body interaction in some colloidal systems, such as dilute solutions of polymer chains in good solvents.

Inflationary Models Driven by Adiabatic Matter Creation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
The flat inflationary dust universe with matter creation proposed by Prigogine and coworkers is generalized and its dynamical properties are reexamined. It is shown that the starting point of these models depends critically on a dimensionless parameter $\
