Physical mechanism of the surface d → d + is transition [PDF]
Europhysics Letters (EPL), 2001 We discuss the basic physical mechanism of the surface d → d + is transition. Using the first-order perturbation theory, we show that the mid-gap states drive the transition. We present various order-of-magnitude estimates and consistency checks that support this picture.
