Spatio-temporal patterns of sarcoptic mange in red deer and Iberian ibex in a multi-host natural park.

Research in Veterinary Science, 2019
The reliance on multiple hosts to survive is what makes the management and control of multi-host infectious agents challenging. Sarcoptes scabiei causes sarcoptic mange in a wide range of mammal species with ungulates being an important host.

Absence of TB in Iberian ibex ( Capra pyrenaica ) in a high‐risk area

Veterinary Record, 2010
Mycobacterium bovis is the causative agent of bovine tuberculosis (TB); it has an exceptionally wide host range, which includes goats. In fact, caprine tuberculosis caused by M bovis has been widely studied in domestic goats due to their high susceptibility to infection ([O'Reilly and Daborn 1995 ...

Sarcoptic mange and metapodial development in growing male Iberian ibex (Capra pyrenaica)

Veterinary Parasitology, 2007
The effect of mange (Sarcoptes scabiei) on metapodial growth was studied in 24 uninfested and 16 infested male Iberian ibex from Sierra Nevada National Park (southern Spain). Our results show that infested ibex had smaller metatarsal bones, lower body weight, and a delayed rhythm of ossification, by about 1 year.

Method validation, reference values, and characterization of acute-phase protein responses to experimentally induced inflammation and bluetongue virus infection in the Iberian ibex.

Veterinary clinical pathology, 2019
BACKGROUND Acute phase protein (APP) concentrations can change due to inflammation and be used to monitor disease in the Iberian ibex (Capra pyrenaica).

Evaluation of oxidant/antioxidant balance in Iberian ibex (Capra pyrenaica) experimentally infested with Sarcoptes scabiei.

Veterinary Parasitology, 2017
Oxidative stress (OS) is an imbalance between radical-generating and radical scavenging activity, resulting in oxidation products and tissue damage. Although some studies have been done in other species, there is a lack of information about the oxidative/antioxidant status in the Iberian ibex (Capra pyrenaica) affected by sarcoptic mange.

Fertilization capacity of cryopreserved Iberian ibex epididymal sperm in a heterologousin vitrofertilization assay

Zygote, 2013
SummaryIn vitrofertilization (IVF) can be used to assess the fertilization capacity of sperm. Heterologous IVF may be useful when assessing that of wild animals as it is often difficult to obtain adequate numbers of naturally corresponding oocytes. The aim of the present study was to assess the fertilization capacity of frozen–thawed ibex epididymal ...

On the population biology ofSarcoptes scabieiinfesting Iberian ibex (Capra pyrenaica)

International Journal of Acarology, 2015
In this study, we analysed the Sarcoptes scabiei infrapopulations of 315 Iberian ibex (Capra pyrenaica) by means of skin digestion and differential mite counts. Mean density reached 178.2 mites/cm (range: 0.71-4514.29). Although the most frequently affected zones were hosts extremities and withers, higher mite densities were obtained from lips and ...
