Decreased cold‐sensing function of the transient receptor potential channel TRPM8 from tailed amphibians

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Despite frogs avoiding low temperatures, examination of four salamander species revealed that none avoided cold and all possessed cold tolerance. Functional analysis of TRPM8, a cold sensor, showed that all salamander TRPM8s had lost their cold sensitivity.

Resolving the Structural Duality of Graphene Grain Boundaries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Cantilever ncAFM resolves the atomic structure of grain boundaries in graphene, revealing coexisting stable and metastable types. Both contain pentagon/heptagon defects, but metastable GBs show irregular geometries. Modeling shows metastable GBs form under compression, exhibiting vertical corrugation, while stable GBs are flat.

Bias‐Field Free Single‐Frequency CW‐ODMR of Nitrogen‐Vacancy Centers in Diamond for the Detection of Transient Electrical Signals

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Simplified quantum sensing technique for the detection of short electrical signals occurring in neuronal signaling or bioinspired technologies. We demonstrate a single frequency continuous‐wave optically detected magnetic resonance (CW‐ODMR) approach to sense signals that can be as short as 0.2 ms.

Heterogeneity in Food Price Inflation Convergence Across the EU: Evidence From Club Dynamics and Structural Breaks

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study examines food price inflation rate convergence among EU27 Member States from 2005 to 2024, focusing on structural breaks, external shocks, and regional disparities. Using panel unit root tests and club convergence analysis, the findings reveal no overall convergence but identify multiple convergence clubs.

Glyphosate in the Iberian Peninsula: Evaluating risks to Iberian wildlife

open access: yesDrug and Chemical Toxicology
Glyphosate [N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine] (GlyP) is an herbicide extensively used worldwide, including the Iberian Peninsula. It is mainly used in agricultural landscapes but also in urban areas, in railways, and even in water bodies. Despite glyphosate's large use, there is a paucity of research on its exposure and its potential effects on wildlife ...
