Ice mass loss sensitivity to the Antarctic ice sheet basal thermal state
This study uses ice sheet modeling experiments to show that thawing portions of the Antarctic ice sheet bed can increase century-scale mass loss, particularly in the Wilkes and Enderby Land regions of East Antarctica.

Ice-crystal fabric can induce mechanical anisotropy that significantly affects flow, but ice-flow models generally do not include fabric development or its effect upon flow.

Future sea-level projections with a coupled atmosphere-ocean-ice-sheet model
Most global sea level projections ignore the active role of ice-sheet-climate coupling. Including this effect, a new modeling system simulates irreversible Antarctic ice-sheet loss and accelerating sea level rise for global mean temperatures >1.8oC.

Sensitivity of isochrones to surface mass balance and dynamics
The interior of an ice sheet consists of layers of accumulated snow, which contain important information on accumulation and ice dynamics that are imprinted on layer shapes over time.

GRANTSISM: An Excel™ ice sheet model for use in introductory Earth science courses [PDF]
GRANTISM (GReenland and ANTarctic Ice Sheet Model) is an educational Excel™ model introduced by Pattyn (2006). Here, GRANTISM is amended to simulate the Svalbard-Barents-Sea Ice Sheet during the Last Glacial Maximum, an analogue for the contemporary West

Global ice sheet modeling [PDF]
The University of Maine conducted this study for Pacific Northwest Laboratory (PNL) as part of a global climate modeling task for site characterization of the potential nuclear waste respository site at Yucca Mountain, NV. The purpose of the study was to develop a global ice sheet dynamics model that will forecast the three-dimensional configuration of

Past rates of accumulation in central West Antarctica [PDF]
The spatial variation in ice accumulation is critical to the form and stability of ice sheets. In West Antarctica, knowledge of present ice accumulation rates is restricted to sparse measurements and interpolations across data free regions, while ...

The Impact of Basal Roughness on Inland Thwaites Glacier Sliding
Swath radar technology enables three‐dimensional mapping of modern glacier beds over large areas at resolutions that are higher than those typically used in ice‐flow models.

Modeling the Antarctic ice sheet [PDF]
A three-dimensional (3-D), high-resolution, non-linearly viscous, non-isothermal ice-sheet model is employed to calculate the “present-day” equilibrium regime of the Antarctic ice sheet and its evolution during the last glacial cycle.

Investigating the multi-millennial evolution and stability of the Greenland ice sheet using remapped surface mass balance forcing [PDF]
Surface mass balance (SMB) forcing for projections of the future evolution of the Greenland ice sheet with stand-alone modeling approaches has been commonly derived from regional climate models (RCMs) on a fixed ice sheet topography.
