Ecotypic Differentiation in Carex Aquatilis on Ice-Wedge Polygons in the Alaskan Coastal Tundra

The Journal of Ecology, 1979
(1) Growth and nutrient relations of Carex aquatilis were examined in the field and in glasshouse-grown plants from five polygon microhabitats in wet meadow tundra at Barrow, Alaska. These habitats can occur within 1 m of each other, and differ greatly in soil moisture, availability of N and P and thaw depth.

Fossil ice-wedge polygons in the Colorado Front Range: Origin and significance

Geological Society of America Bulletin, 1979
Polygonal patterned ground in a tundra valley near Sawtooth Peak, Boulder County, Colorado, is unique in the Front Range because of its large size and its resemblance to fossil ice-wedge polygons. The polygons occur in a terminal moraine of latest Pinedale age (about 15,000 to 10,000 B.P.), at an altitude of 3,390 m.

Exploration Applications Through Remote Sensing of Ice-Wedge Polygons: ABSTRACT

AAPG Bulletin, 1985
Petroleum exploration is facilitated through remote-sensing techniques such as Landsat digital data processing and aerial photointerpretation. These techniques were applied to reconstruct past geologic environments and to analyze the present geomorphic setting of the Colville delta on the North Slope of Alaska.
