Terminus Geometry as Main Control on Outlet Glacier Velocity [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Ice flow velocities close to the terminus of major outlet glaciers of the Greenland Ice Sheet can vary on the time scale of years to hours. Such flow speed variations can be explained as the reaction to changes in terminus geometry with help of a 3D full-Stokes ice flow model.

Fluralaner treatment of chickens kills the southern house mosquito, Culex quinquefasciatus

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, Volume 39, Issue 2, Page 385-392, June 2025.
Chickens treated with fluralaner, fenbendazole or ivermectin did not repel Culex quinquefasciatus from feeding. The mortality of Culex quinquefasciatus feeding on fluralaner‐treated chickens was significantly higher than that of those fed on control chickens at 3 and 7 days post‐treatment.

Ocean-driven thinning enhances iceberg calving and retreat of Antarctic ice shelves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Iceberg calving from all Antarctic ice shelves has never been directly measured, despite playing a crucial role in ice sheet mass balance. Rapid changes to iceberg calving naturally arise from the sporadic detachment of large tabular bergs but can also ...

Prevalence and Risk Factors for the Contamination of Cattle Carcasses With Shiga Toxin‐Producing Escherichia coli in Provincially Licensed Abattoirs in Ontario, Canada, Based on Molecular Surveillance

open access: yesZoonoses and Public Health, Volume 72, Issue 4, Page 379-389, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Introduction Reducing the prevalence of Shiga toxin‐producing Escherichia coli (STEC) is an important responsibility of provincial abattoirs to ensure safe products are entering the human food chain. Currently, within Ontario, provincial abattoirs are mandated to apply various antimicrobial treatments to cattle carcasses to help decrease ...

Ice-front variation and tidewater behavior on Helheim and Kangerdlugssuaq Glaciers, Greenland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We used satellite images to examine the calving behavior of Helheim and Kangerdlugssuaq Glaciers, Greenland, from 2001 to 2006, a period in which they retreated and sped up.

Remote Sensing of Antarctic Glacier and Ice-Shelf Front Dynamics—A Review

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2018
The contribution of Antarctica’s ice sheet to global sea-level rise depends on the very dynamic behavior of glaciers and ice shelves. One important parameter of ice-sheet dynamics is the location of glacier and ice-shelf fronts.

A model for tidewater glacier undercutting by submarine melting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Dynamic change at the marine-terminating margins of the Greenland Ice Sheet may be initiated by the ocean, particularly where subglacial runoff drives vigorous ice-marginal plumes and rapid submarine melting.

Ice Island Calvings and Ice Shelf Changes, Milne Ice Shelf and Ayles Ice Shelf, Ellesmere Island, N.W.T. [PDF]

open access: yesARCTIC, 1986
Analysis of vertical air photographs taken in 1959 and 1974 reveals that a total of 48 sq km, involving 3.3 cubic km, of ice calved from Milne and Ayles ice shelves between July 1959 and July 1974. In addition, Ayles Ice Shelf moved to about 5 km out of Ayles Fiord. It still occupied this exposed position in July 1984. The ice losses and movements have
