Level ice interactions with multi-legged offshore structures

open access: yesИнженерно-строительный журнал, 2017
The task of determining the total ice load from drifting level ice floes on 3- and 4-legged structures, widely used in the development of offshore oil & gas fields, was considered in the article.

Peridynamic Simulation of the Penetration of an Ice Sheet by a Vertically Ascending Cylinder

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
The vertical ice breaking of marine structures in ice-covered areas involves the deformation and failure of an ice sheet. Different from the existing conventional scenarios where the ice sheet is used as a transportation and support medium, the damage to

Thermo-Economic Analysis of a Bottoming Kalina Cycle for Internal Combustion Engine Exhaust Heat Recovery

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
The use of a Kalina cycle (KC) with a superheater to recover waste heat from an internal combustion engine (ICE) is described in this paper. The thermodynamic and economic analyses are performed for KC.

A comparison of regression models for the ice loads measured during the ice tank test

open access: yesBrodogradnja, 2023
To evaluate the time-domain positioning performance of arctic marine structures, it is necessary to generate an ice load appropriate for the current position and heading of the structure. The position and orientation angle of a floating body continuously

Study on Dynamic Characteristics of Thrust Bearing of Icebreaker

open access: yesJournal of Harbin University of Science and Technology, 2019
By means of finite element analysis method, we simulate the process of the icebreaker and ice collision to obtain the ice load The transient point supporting fanshaped thrust bearing dynamic characteristics were calculated in this transient process, and

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
