Numerical Simulation on Ice Shedding Phenomena in Turbomachinery [PDF]
In the jet engine, icing phenomena occur primarily on the fan blades, the fan exit guide vanes (FEGVs), the splitter, and the low-pressure compressor. Accreted ice disturbs the inlet flow and causes large energy losses. In addition, ice accreted on a fan rotor can be shed from the blade surface due to centrifugal force and can damage compressor ...

Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

A dataset of direct observations of sea ice drift and waves in ice
Variability in sea ice conditions, combined with strong couplings to the atmosphere and the ocean, lead to a broad range of complex sea ice dynamics. More in-situ measurements are needed to better identify the phenomena and mechanisms that govern sea ice

Orbital ice: an exact Coulomb phase on the diamond lattice
We demonstrate the existence of orbital Coulomb phase as the exact ground state of p-orbital exchange Hamiltonian on the diamond lattice. The Coulomb phase is an emergent state characterized by algebraic dipolar correlations and a gauge structure ...

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Long-term characteristics of ice phenology in Karelian lakes [PDF]
The statistical relationships between lake ice phenology (freeze and break-up dates, ice duration), air temperature and North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) index are analysed for eight lakes in Karelia from 1950 to 2009.

Numerical investigation on thermal and fluid dynamic behaviours in ice melting at pore scale
A significant weather hazard for flying an airplane is icing. In this context, ice accumulation has recently been recognized as a risk to flight safety. A briefly review on the models used for investigating the icing phenomena is performed.
