Ice-stream stability on a reverse bed slope [PDF]

open access: yesNature Geoscience, 2012
Marine ice streams whose beds deepen inland are thought to be inherently unstable. Numerical modelling of the Maguerite Bay ice-stream retreat in West Antarctica since the Last Glacial Maximum suggests that an ice stream can stabilize on an inland-sloping bed owing to increased lateral drag where the ice stream narrows.

Excitation‐Wavelength‐Tunable Lasing in Individual Quantum Dot Superparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Mesoscale superparticles assembled from CdSe quantum dots are shown to behave as microlasers with emission properties that can be tuned by changing the excitation wavelength. Abstract Microcavities enable precise control over light‐matter interactions, supporting a wide range of applications in photonics and optoelectronics.

A Two-stage Online Monitoring Procedure for High-Dimensional Data Streams [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Advanced computing and data acquisition technologies have made possible the collection of high-dimensional data streams in many fields. Efficient online monitoring tools which can correctly identify any abnormal data stream for such data are highly sought after. However, most of the existing monitoring procedures directly apply the false discover rate (

Ice streams—fast, and faster?

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Physique, 2004
Abstract Rapid flow of ice streams is caused either by great thickness, or by effective basal lubrication especially from deforming tills. Competing thermal processes act to stabilize and to destabilize the well-lubricated ice streams, and may contribute to their observed short-term variability yet long-term persistence. Increasing evidence indicates

Rigid Macroporous Wood Microparticles Impart Universality and Scalability to Lightweight Foam Insulation

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, EarlyView.
Rigid, lightweight foams for thermal insulation are produced using a universal and scalable method: results are compared between pilot plant trials, four wood residues, pulp, ocean water, and a biosurfactant. Two guidelines for using this method are suggested: use a distribution of rigid wood microparticle sizes and shapes and match the average ...

First description of subglacial megalineations from the late Paleozoic ice age in southern Africa.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
We identify late Paleozoic ice age (LPIA) subglacial megalineations from field and geospatial imagery of the Twyfelfontein area of northern Namibia, and present the results of a geomorphometric analysis of those data.

The Non‐Coding Regulatory Variant rs2863002 at chr11p11.2 Increases Neuroblastoma Risk by Affecting HSD17B12 Expression and Lipid Metabolism

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The SNP rs2863002 at the 11p11.2 locus, identified through GWAS, is associated with an increased risk of neuroblastoma. The rs2863002‐C allele impairs the binding of the transcription factor GATA3, resulting in upregulation of the HSD17B12 gene.

Semaphorin 3E‐Plexin‐D1 Pathway Downstream of the Luteinizing Hormone Surge Regulates Ovulation, Granulosa Cell Luteinization, and Ovarian Angiogenesis in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The Semaphorin 3E (Sema3E)‐Plexin‐D1 pathway mediated by C/EBPα and C/EBPβ downstream of the luteinizing hormone (LH) surge plays important roles in the mouse preovulatory ovary. Timely activation and suppression of this pathway during the preovulatory stage are crucial for ovulation, corpus luteum formation, and proper angiogenesis.

The periodic topography of ice stream beds: Insights from the Fourier spectra of mega‐scale glacial lineations

open access: yes, 2017
Ice stream bed topography contains key evidence for the ways ice streams interact with, and are potentially controlled by, their beds. Here we present the first application of two‐dimensional Fourier analysis to 22 marine and terrestrial topographies ...

LRRC4 Deficiency Drives Premature Ovarian Insufficiency by Disrupting Metabolic Homeostasis in Granulosa Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
LRRC4 deficiency disrupts the metabolic homeostasis of mitochondrial aerobic respiration and glycolysis during GC differentiation by inhibiting the ubiquitination‐mediated degradation of YAP, which ultimately leads to POI. These findings reveal the novel molecular etiology of POI and provide a promising target for prevention and treatment.
