Abstract Lakes on the Tibetan Plateau (TP) are sensitive indicators of climate change due to minimal disturbance by human activities. Estimations of lake water levels and storage variations on the TP are essential in evaluating water resources and modeling hydrologic processes in high-altitude endorheic basins.

Operation IceBridge, a six-year NASA mission, is the largest airborne survey of Earth's polar ice ever flown. Data collected during IceBridge will help scientists bridge the gap in polar observations between NASA's Ice, Cloud and Land Elevation Satellite (ICESat), in orbit from 2003 to 2009, and ICESat-2, planned for launch in late 2015, making ...

ICESat-2 Precision Orbit Determination Performance
2020<p>The Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) mission launched on September 15th, 2018, with the primary goal of measuring ice sheet topographic change. The fundamental measurement used to achieve mission science objectives is the geolocation of individual photon bounce points.

The ICESat-2 Laser Altimetry Mission
Proceedings of the IEEE, 2010Satellite and aircraft observations have revealed that remarkable changes in the Earth's polar ice cover have occurred in the last decade. The impacts of these changes, which include dramatic ice loss from ice sheets and rapid declines in Arctic sea ice, could be quite large in terms of sea level rise and global climate.

ICESat Geolocation Validation Using Airborne Photography
IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2010NASA's ICESat satellite launched in January of 2003, carrying the Geoscience Laser Altimeter. During the initial phase of this mission, many validation procedures were implemented to verify the accuracy associated with a variety of altimetry-derived data products.

ICESAT-2 altimetry for coastal MSS improvement
2023Radar altimeters have traditioally been used for the determination of the mean sea surface to centimeter accuracy. However close to the coast the MSS degrade because of the lack of valid altimetry observations and because of the land contamination and the altimeter footprint size.

The ICESat satellite, launched in 2003, is equipped with an altimeter that uses a laser beam to determine its distance from the Earth. Forty short laser pulses per second hit an area of Earth's surface that is 70 metres in diameter. These measurement circles are 170 metres apart.
