In a given number of samples, grassland sward islets contain more species of arthropods than the surrounding sward. When corrected for abundance, there is no difference in species richness, suggesting that the effect of islets might purely be to concentrate arthropods. The community structure differences indicated by non‐metric multidimensional scaling

Endosymbiotic organisms are known to manipulate the reproductive biology of their hosts. Incomplete prevalence of endosymbiont inducing thelytokous parthenogenesis results in the coexistence of sexual and asexual individuals, and could account for the ...

Dragon fruit (pitaya; Hylocereus undatus) is a promising, new high‐value crop in New Zealand. The large nocturnal flowers open for one night and close early in the morning the following day over a 3‐ to 6‐month long flowering period. In dragon fruit's native range, hawkmoths and bats are key nocturnal pollinators, and honey bees visit flowers during ...

Leafrollers can experience high levels of indigenous parasitism in organically managed apple orchards and the augmentative release of specific parasitoid species to suppress these secondary pests may be advantageous in orchards converting to non-chemical

We compared the community structure of Aculeata bees and wasps in natural deciduous broadleaved forests and two coniferous plantations (Cryptomeria japonica, “Sugi” and Chamaecyparis obtusa, “Hinoki”) in southern Kyushu, Japan. Compared with natural forests, the dependence of Aculeata communities on the detritus‐based food chain increased in both ...

First notice of Therion from South America with description of two new species from Argentina and Bolivia (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) [PDF]
Therion Curtis (Ichneumonidae: Anomalinae) has a nearly cosmopolitan geographic distribution but has not previously been recorded from South America. In most Therion the tarsal claws are simple or have only a few inconspicuous teeth near the base.

A New Nearctic Triclistus (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) [PDF]
[excerpt] When Townes and Townes (1959) revised the genus Triclistus along with the rest of the Nearctic Metopiinae, they decided not to describe what was thought likely to be an additional new species, because only one male specimen was known.

Using extensive Malaise trapping, we collected a high richness of Pimplinae (86 species, 5892 individuals) in habitat types across a successional gradient. We found higher richness in forest than in nearby farmland, highlighting the importance of tropical forest in conserving parasitoid wasp richness.
