Seilacherian ichnofacies are defined as trace fossil assemblages that recur through long intervals of geologic time and are more or less characteristic of a given set of environmental conditions (Frey and Pemberton 1984, 1985). Essential to the ichnofacies concept is their archetypal nature.

Bioturbation on the Pelagian Platform: Ichnofacies variations as paleoclimatic indicator
Marine Geology, 1981Abstract X-radiographs of apparently structureless split cores collected on the outer Pelagian platform (Tunisia) display highly bioturbated sequences. The study of these sequences enabled us to determine ichnofacies variations that might be related to hydrologic and climatic changes occurring in this area during the late Quarternary epoch.

The shorebird ichnofacies: an example from the Miocene of southern Spain
Geological Magazine, 2000The Late Miocene Sorbas Member of the Sorbas Basin, Almería Province, southeast Spain contains an extensive avian ichnofauna preserved in lagoonal marls. Three distinctive avian ichnotaxa can be identified: Antarctichnus fuenzalidae Covacevich and Lamperein, 1970; Iranipeda millumi n. ichnosp.; and Roepichnus grahami n. ichnogen, n. ichnosp.

TRYPANITES-TYPE ICHNOFACIES AT THE BAY OF FUNDY, NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA
PALAIOS, 2015ABSTRACT The Trypanites ichnofacies is frequently associated with low biotic and trace diversity, and erosional or nondepositional conditions. However, analysis of an extensively exposed, modern, siliciclastic, intertidal hardground community near Thomas Cove, located at Economy Point, Nova Scotia, within the Bay of Fundy, reveals a diverse community ...

The Phanerozoic Four Revolutions and Evolution of Paleosol Ichnofacies
2016The analysis of a database composed of 166 cases of invertebrate and root trace fossils in paleosols allowed us to recognize four major evolutionary steps in the Phanerozoic evolution of paleosol ichnofaunas. Each step constitutes a revolution that is reflected in the appearance of a new ichnofacies.

Dense concentrations of Skolithos, commonly called piperock, exemplify the characteristic ichnofabric of the Skolithos ichnofacies in Paleozoic strata. Piperock occurs in sandstones and coarse siltstones within all types of shallow marine facies and is not restricted to beach, littoral or intertidal sediments.
