During the last 25 years (1973-1998), changes in the quantitative and qualitative composition of the Adriatic ichthyofauna have been noted. The numbers of thermophilic species have increased ; several species, previously scarce or rare, have become more abundant, while others are new records.

Abstract The general characteristics of the Turkish marine ichthyofauna are presented with respect to local conditions of abundance, habitat, depth range, feeding habits, size, geographic distribution and commercial importance. A statistical analysis was carried out for the 400 fish species belonging to 119 families.
