Therapeutic effects of the euglenoid ichthyotoxin, euglenophycin, in colon cancer. [PDF]
Colorectal cancer (CRC) remains one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers and the 3rd leading cause of cancer-related mortality. The emergence of drug resistance poses a major challenge in CRC care or treatment. This can be addressed by determining cancer mechanisms, discovery of druggable targets, and development of new drugs.

Mitigation of fish-killing algal toxins by clay minerals offers great promise as an emergency strategy for fish farms threatened by harmful algal blooms, but its efficiency is highly clay and algal species (i.e. ichthyotoxin) specific. We here screened several different clay types (kaolin, zeolite, Korean loess and six bentonites) for their adsorptive ...

VCD Determination of the Absolute Configuration of Stypotriol [PDF]
The absolute configuration of the pentacyclic ichthyotoxin stypotriol, a constituent of Stypopodium zonale, was deduced to be 3S,5R,8R,9R,10S,13S,14S-(-)-1 by vibrational circular dichroism spectroscopy of the derived triacetate 2 in comparison to DFT ...

Carteraol E, a potent polyhydroxyl ichthyotoxin from the dinoflagellate Amphidinium carterae [PDF]
Abstract Carteraol E (1), C74H126O24, a polyhydroxyl ichthyotoxin, was isolated from the lab-cultured marine dinoflagellate Amphidinium carterae. Carteraol E possessed three tetrahydropyrans, and 19 hydroxyl groups on a C69-linear aliphatic chain with a ketone moiety, an exo-methylene, and three methyl branches.

163 Identification of Euglenoids That Produce Ichthyotoxin(S) (Euglenophyta)
Diatoms, dinoflagellates, pelagiophytes, prymnesiophytes, and cyanobacteria are the only divisions of microalgae known to produce toxins. We now report toxin production by freshwater members of the genus Euglena. Fish mortalities (sheepshead minnows, catfish, striped bass, and tilapia) have been observed following exposure in the field to Euglena ...
