Ictal–Interictal Continuum

Journal of Clinical Neurophysiology, 2018
Summary: The term “ictal–interictal” continuum has seen wide adoption in the critical care EEG domain, referring to the presence of abnormal periodic activity on the scalp EEG variably associated with seizures. The historical origin of the ictal–interictal continuum concept is discussed with a review of known and surmised physiological ...

Overnight Ictal Magnetoencephalography

Neurology Clinical Practice, 2021
The added value of magnetoencephalography (MEG) in the presurgical evaluation for drug-resistant epilepsy is well-recognised 1-4. However, MEG remains mostly limited to analysis of interictal epileptic activity 1,5. Seizures are uncommonly captured due to logistical considerations despite mounting evidence of the value of ictal MEG in localising the ...

Increased neck muscle stiffness in migraine patients with ictal neck pain: A shear wave elastography study

Cephalalgia, 2020
Background Ictal neck pain is a frequent symptom reported by half of migraine patients. It is unknown if neck pain is caused by peripheral or central mechanisms.

Peri‐ictal heart rate variability parameters as surrogate markers of seizure severity

Epilepsia, 2020
This study aims at defining objective parameters reflecting the severity of peri‐ictal autonomic changes and their relation to post‐ictal generalized electroencephalography (EEG) suppression (PGES), with the view that such changes could be detected by ...

Ictal Tinnitus

Epilepsia, 1986
Summary: Unilateral high pitched tinnitus was the sole epileptic ictal manifestation of a 45‐year‐old woman. Electrographic seizures originated from the contralateral midtemporal area and consistently correlated with tinnitus. Computed tomography (CT) demonstrated a lesion involving the superior temporal gyrus and inferior portion of the supramarginal

Ictal Hemiparesis

European Neurology, 1982
2 cases of ictal hemiparesis in adults are presented. The clinical picture was recurrent transient hemiparesis with contralateral focal hemispheric discharge. The etiology in such cases seems to be a stimulation of the second somatosensory and/or the supplementary motor areas.

Ictal Bigeminy

Clinical EEG and Neuroscience, 2010
Seizures can influence cardiac autonomic function and cause abnormalities in the electrocardiogram (EKG). 1 A case of stereotypical bigeminy during left temporal lobe seizures recorded in the epilepsy monitoring unit is presented. The mechanism is likely due to spread of the ictal discharge to primary visceromotor regions in the left insula (Island ...

Ictal and interictal electric source imaging in pre‐surgical evaluation: a prospective study

European Journal of Neurology, 2018
Accurate localization of the epileptic focus is essential for surgical treatment of patients with drug‐resistant epilepsy. Electric source imaging (ESI) is increasingly used in pre‐surgical evaluation.
