The ictal EEG in ECT: A systematic review of the relationships between ictal features, ECT technique, seizure threshold and outcomes

open access: yesBrain Stimulation, 2020
Objective: To provide guidance for ECT practitioners in utilising the ictal EEG to inform treatment decisions. Methods: A systematic review of studies examining the ictal EEG, treatment technique, seizure threshold and treatment outcomes was conducted ...

A case series on disorder on psychiatric symptoms in epileptic patients with emphasis on the disorder of awareness of body

open access: yesOpen Journal of Psychiatry and Allied Sciences, 2022
Background: Paroxysmal psychiatric symptoms are commonly associated with pre-ictal, ictal, or post-ictal phases of seizure. Most of the studies regarding psychiatric symptoms are semiological in nature emphasising anatomical correlates of seizure in ...

Comparison of empirical mode decomposition and coarse-grained procedure for detecting pre-ictal and ictal condition in electroencephalography signal

open access: yesInformatics in Medicine Unlocked, 2020
This study evaluates the use of multiscale signal analysis to detect and predict seizures by finding the ictal and pre-ictal condition in electroencephalography (EEG) recordings. There are three processing stages in this study.

The Case of a 28‐Year‐Old Woman With Medically Refractory Focal Epilepsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We present the case of a 28‐year‐old right‐handed woman with medically refractory focal epilepsy. Her seizure semiology and electroencephalography (EEG) indicated a seizure onset zone in the right central‐parietal area. However, both MRI and PET scans were unremarkable, showing no focal lesions or areas of altered metabolism.

Physiological reactivity to spontaneously occurring seizure activity in dogs with epilepsy and their carers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
There is a complex bidirectional relationship between stress and epilepsy. Stressful stimuli and subsequent cortisol release act as a trigger for seizure activity in some individuals with epilepsy, and seizure activity itself may act as a stressor to the

Refractory Status Epilepticus Treated With Bilateral Pulvinar Deep Brain Stimulation—A Case Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT New‐onset refractory status epilepticus (NORSE) arises without an identifiable cause or prior epilepsy history, with a 16%–27% mortality rate and significant long‐term neurological sequelae. Neuromodulation such as deep brain stimulation (DBS) targeting the anterior and centromedian thalamic nuclei has shown promise when the traditional ...

A Novel Hypothesis for Migraine Disease Mechanism: The Creation of a New Attractor Responsible for Migraine Disease Symptoms

open access: yesChaos Theory and Applications
Migraine Disease (MD) is one of the common primary headaches that can prevent patients from their everyday life. Despite the high prevalence, the pathophysiology of the disease has not been clearly understood yet.

Ictal Generalized EEG Attenuation (IGEA) and hypopnea in a child with occipital type 1 cortical dysplasia - Is it a biomarker for SUDEP?

open access: yesAnnals of Indian Academy of Neurology, 2015
An interesting association of ictal hypopnea and ictal generalized EEG attenuation (IGEA) as possible marker of sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) is reported. We describe a 5-years-old girl with left focal seizures with secondary generalization

Predicting Epileptogenic Tubers in Patients With Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Using a Fusion Model Integrating Lesion Network Mapping and Machine Learning

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Accurate localization of epileptogenic tubers (ETs) in patients with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is essential but challenging, as these tubers lack distinct pathological or genetic markers to differentiate them from other cortical tubers.
