Engineered AuNPs/fMWCNT Nanocomposite Electrodes for High‐Sensitivity Methylglyoxal Sensing in Saliva and Sweat for Non‐Invasive Diabetes Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
An AuNPs/fMWCNT nanocomposite‐modified screen‐printed carbon electrode was engineered via sequential electrodeposition and integrated into a 3D‐printed microfluidic platform for ultrasensitive methylglyoxal detection. The non‐invasive sensing platform enables rapid analysis in saliva and sweat, highlighting strong potential for wearable point‐of‐care ...

Justice and care: The implications of the Kohlberg-Gilligan debate for medical ethics

open access: yes, 1992
Carol Gilligan has identified two orientations to moral understanding; the dominant 'justice orientation' and the under-valued 'care orientation'. Based on her discernment of a 'voice of care', Gilligan challenges the adequacy of a deontological liberal

Plasmonic Enhancement of Fluorescence and Protein Dynamics in Living Mammalian Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates plasmonic enhancement of the function of fluorescent voltage sensing proteins (genetically encoded voltage indicators, (GEVIs), QuasAr6) in live mammalian cells. Coupling to plasmonic nanoparticles does not just increase fluorescence, but influences the protein photocycle, creating a hybrid sensor with its response speed to ...

A critical discussion of Jonathan Dancy's moral particularism

open access: yes, 2007
'Moral Particularism' is a view that questions the role of principles in ethics. Jonathan Dancy, the most eminent particularist, argues that principles which claim that it is right or wrong to do a certain thing in all situations cannot adequately ...

Bioorthogonal Photoactivation of 2‐Nitrobenzyl Caged Doxorubicin Anticancer Prodrugs on Gold Nanostars

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bioorthogonal chemistry was applied to intracellularly photoactivate Doxorubicin (Dox) using gold nanostars (AuNSt) and near‐infrared (NIR) light. Two prodrugs were used: one photoactivatable, masked with 2‐nitrobenzyl carbamate (proDox1) and another photolabile, masked with 2‐nitrobenzyl diol (proDox2), which was attached to the AuNSt surface.

New Media, New Participants – New Ethics? : Is there a chance for ethics in a world of prosumers?

open access: yes, 2012
At a time when not only journalists reach large audiences with news and commentary, new ethical questions arise.  In the paper, two opposing views are discussed critically: a) the traditional elitist view, that tends to be suspicious of UGC in ...

Weaving Intelligence: Thermally Drawn Multimaterial Fibers Toward AI‐Enabled Smart Textiles

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Thermally drawn multimaterial fibers are rapidly advancing as intelligent structural units for next‐generation smart textiles. Integrating multimaterial architectures with neuromorphic and spiking‐neural‐network principles enables fabrics that can sense, compute, and adapt autonomously.

All‐Polyimide‐Mediated Liquid Metal Assembly on Aerogels for Breathable and Robust Electronic Skins

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An all‐polyimide‐mediated assembly strategy resolves the fundamental conflict between physiological breathability and electromechanical robustness in wearable electronics. By integrating a polyamic acid‐encapsulated liquid metal ink onto an ultralight polyimide aerogel, imidization‐induced contraction enables low‐temperature conductive activation and ...
