Mathematica Bohemica, 2015 Let \((S,+,\cdot)\) be an additively commutative semiring with absorbing zero \(0\) and identity \(1\). It is shown that \((S,\cdot)\) is idempotent if and only if there exist positive integers \(n\) and \(m\geq 2\) such that \(x^{n+1}=x^n\) and \(x^m=x\) for all \(x\in S\).
