Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Comparison of the Facial Morphologies of Identical Twins Using Three-Dimensional Photography: A Case Report

open access: yesMedicine Science, 2016
The facial morphologies of identical twins were compared using the 3dMD three-dimensional (3D) photogrammetry system. 3D images of the faces of 27-year-old identical twins were acquired and then superimposed.

Sarcoidosis in identical twins.

open access: yesNihon Naika Gakkai Zasshi, 1986

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Comparative study of social skills observation of twin with and without visual impairment

open access: yesRevista Educação Especial, 2012
The general aim was to describe and characterize the social performances of two identical twins aged ten years old: one blind and one sighted. The data were obtained by filming the children during free situations.

Application of intraoral scanner to identify monozygotic twins

open access: yesBMC Oral Health, 2020
Background DNA base identification is a proper and high specificity method. However, identification could be challenged in a situation where there is no database or the DNA sequence is almost identical, as in the case of monozygotic (MZ) twins.

Sarcoidosis in identical twins [PDF]

open access: yesActa geneticae medicae et gemellologiae, 1957
SummaryThe simultaneous occurrence of sarcoidosis in two 24yearold white men who where enzygotic twins is reported. Manifestations of the disease as well as its clinical course were identical in both twins.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

The anti‐CRISPR protein AcrIE8.1 inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system by directly binding to the Cascade subunit Cas11

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we present the structure of AcrIE8.1, a previously uncharacterized anti‐CRISPR protein that inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system. Through a combination of structural and biochemical analyses, we demonstrate that AcrIE8.1 directly binds to the Cas11 subunit of the Cascade complex to inhibit the CRISPR‐Cas system.

About Twins

open access: yesInternational Journal of the Whole Child, 2019
Twins, unique and similar – oh, the marvel of it all.  Consider the fact that twins represent only about 3% of the population. The amazing journey of a set of identical twins begins with one single egg, which splits during fertilization into two eggs ...
