Biology and identification of Aeolothripidae (Thysanoptera) in Australia

Invertebrate Systematics, 1998
The diversity of biologies amongst Australian thrips of the family Aeolothripidae is discussed. In the basal clades of this family species are phytophagous, also sometimes monophagous and univoltine (Cranothrips Bagnall and Cycadothrips Mound). In the most advanced clades, species are obligate predators, often on other thrips species (Franklinothrips ...

Identification of MHC - molecular biology

Transplant Immunology, 1994
Many of the molecular methods currently in use in the histocompatibility laboratory have been described. The use of a specific technique will depend on the laboratory's requirements. Obviously those laboratories involved in cadaver transplantation will use techniques suitable for single sample analysis which give results within six hours.

HGV: the identification, biology and prevalence of an orphan virus

Liver, 1998
ABSTRACT— Hepatitis G virus (HGV) and GB virus C (GBV‐C) (both hereinafter referred to as HGV) were independently identified in patients with hepatitis of unknown aetiology. HGV is a positive‐sense RNA virus of the family Flaviviridae. The virus can establish both acute and chronic infection and appears to be sensitive to interferon.

Character Identification in Evolutionary Biology: The Role of the Organism

Theory in Biosciences, 2000
In this article we argue that an organismic perspective in character identification can alleviate a structural deficiency of mathematical models in biology relative to the ones in the physical sciences. The problem with many biological theories is that they do not contain the conditions of their validity or a method of identifying objects that are ...

Advances in the biology, pathogenesis and identification of Pneumocystis pneumonia

Current Opinion in Pulmonary Medicine, 2008
Pneumocystis pneumonia remains the most prevalent opportunistic infection in patients with AIDS. It is also a common devastating infection in patients with other causes of altered immunity. Though scientific study of this fungal pathogen is challenging given the inability to propagate the organism outside of the host lung, studies utilizing advanced ...

Applications of Nonlinear System Identification in Molecular Biology

2006 International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2006
Here we show how nonlinear system identification techniques, such as fast orthogonal search (FOS) and the orthogonal search method (OSM), can be used to analyze gene expression profiles and predict the class to which a profile belongs.

Identification and Biology of CML Stem Cells

2016
Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a typical model to study cancer stem cell biology. CML stem cells reside in the CD34+CD38− fraction coexisting with normal hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). By acquisition of BCR-ABL, an oncogenic fusion transcript encoding a constitutively active tyrosine kinase, HSCs become CML stem cells and progressively outgrow ...
