An eye on long‐duration spaceflight: Controversies, countermeasures and challenges

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Space flight‐associated neuroocular syndrome (SANS) is a consequence of long‐duration space flight and is detected in two‐thirds of astronauts. In‐flight, this can cause a change in the refraction of the eyes, requiring graded hypermetropic ‘superfocus adjustable’ glasses, optic nerve head oedema and choroidal folds.

Lipocalin-type prostaglandin D synthase: a glymphopathy marker in idiopathic hydrocephalus

open access: yesFrontiers in Aging Neuroscience
Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus in elderly people is considered a form of glymphopathy caused by malfunction of the waste clearance pathway, called the glymphatic system. Tau is a representative waste material similar to amyloid-β.

Ventricular Volume Is More Strongly Associated with Clinical Improvement Than the Evans Index after Shunting in Idiopathic Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus

open access: yes, 2020
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Ventricular enlargement in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus is often estimated using the Evans index. However, the sensitivity of the Evans index to estimate changes in ventricular size postoperatively has been questioned.

Progressive Supranuclear Palsy: A Crucial Co-occurrence in Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus or an Etiology of Hydrocephalic Presentation?

open access: yesIndian Journal of Neurosurgery, 2020
Co-occurrences of neurodegenerative diseases in normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) is a remarkable topic of discussion, which has been mentioned in recent studies and it was also emphasized by the International Society for Hydrocephalus and ...

Diagnosis and Treatment of Idiopathic Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus [PDF]

open access: yesContinuum, 2016
This article provides neurologists with a pragmatic approach to the diagnosis and treatment of idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH), including an overview of: (1) key symptoms and examination and radiologic findings; (2) use of appropriate tests to determine the patient's likelihood of shunt responsiveness; (3) appropriate referral to ...

Prevalence and development of idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus: A 16‐year longitudinal study in Japan

open access: yesActa Neurologica Scandinavica, 2022
We previously investigated the preclinical state of idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH): asymptomatic ventriculomegaly with features of iNPH on magnetic resonance imaging (AVIM) found in community inhabitants.

Pisa syndrome in Idiopathic Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus [PDF]

open access: yesParkinsonism & Related Disorders, 2019
Idiopathic Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (iNPH) is a complex syndrome of ventriculomegaly that can include parkinsonian-like features besides the classical triad of cognitive decline, urinary incontinence, and gait/balance disturbances. Pisa syndrome (PS) is a postural abnormality often associated with parkinsonism and defined as lateral trunk flexion ...

Trapped Fourth Ventricle in a Pediatric Patient With a History of Post‐Traumatic Hydrocephalus and Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt: A Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Trapped fourth ventricle (TFV) is a rare, serious complication of ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunting that can mimic posterior fossa tumors and cause life‐threatening brainstem compression. We report the case of a 7‐year‐old boy with a history of a VP shunt for post‐traumatic hydrocephalus who presented with progressive drowsiness and gait ...

Pseudotumor Cerebri Syndrome and Essential Thrombocythemia: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Pseudotumor cerebri syndrome (PTCS) is characterized by elevated intracranial pressure in the absence of intracranial mass lesions, structural abnormalities, or infectious conditions. Although the exact pathogenesis of PTCS remains largely elusive, it is increasingly recognized as a multifactorial condition.

Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus: an important differential diagnosis.

open access: yes, 2013
Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus, an uncommon but important differential diagnosis for ataxia, cognitive impairment and urinary incontinence, is surgically treatable, unlike many of its differential diagnoses.
