On Vulnerabilities of the Security Association in the IEEE 802.15.6 Standard [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Wireless Body Area Networks (WBAN) support a variety of real-time health monitoring and consumer electronics applications. The latest international standard for WBAN is the IEEE 802.15.6. The security association in this standard includes four elliptic curve-based key agreement protocols that are used for generating a master key.

Wearable Battery‐Powered Transmitter and Receiver for Path Loss Measurement of Capacitive HBC Channel

open access: yesInternational Journal of Circuit Theory and Applications, Volume 53, Issue 8, Page 4823-4836, August 2025.
This paper presents the design of a wearable battery‐powered capacitive coupling‐human body communication (CC‐HBC) transmitter–receiver allowing a realistic power path loss estimation. The influence on the power path loss of the inter‐electrode distance, body constitution, posture, electrode‐skin contact pressure, and transmission frequency (21 and 42 ...

Performance analysis of IEEE 802.15.6 for underground disaster cases

open access: yesComputer Standards & Interfaces, 2019
Abstract Nowadays, there are many underground working areas, such as mines and tunnels, which are considered with the scope of the hazardous working area. The use of wireless sensor network (WSN) technologies to ensure the safety of the workers as well as the efficient use of the resources in these areas provides great benefits.

IEEE 802.15.6 under saturation: Some problems to be expected

open access: yesJournal of Communications and Networks, 2011
Because currently available wireless technologies are not appropriate for wireless body area networks (WBANs), the IEEE 802.15.6 standard was introduced by the IEEE 802.15.6 Task Group to satisfy all the requirements for a monitoring system that operates on, in, or around the human body.

Optimization mechanism of energy efficiency in coexisting wireless body area networks

open access: yesIET Communications, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
Abstract This paper studies the optimization of energy efficiency in coexisting wireless body area networks (WBANs). A solution based on combining a naive Bayesian classifier with the Hungarian algorithm is proposed to improve link transmission energy efficiency.

Minimizing IoT Energy Consumption Using BLE and Metaprotocol Architecture

open access: yesInternational Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
The Internet of Things is a very fast‐growing industry thanks to the increasing availability of cheap microcontrollers, which are its main component. However, the commonly used cloud technologies are not best suited for resource‐constrained devices, so energy optimization is needed to extend their battery life.

A Compact Dual‐Band Antenna for Brain–Machine Interface and Skin‐Implantable Biotelemetry Applications

open access: yesInternational Journal of Antennas and Propagation, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
This work focuses on designing a compact dual‐band microstrip patch antenna usable for both brain‐ and skin‐implantable biotelemetry applications. The miniaturization is achieved using an E‐shaped meandered resonator over a FR4 substrate with plain ground, resulting a dimension of 13 × 10 × 1.5 mm3.
