Weighted ensemble learning for real‐time short‐term voltage stability assessment with phasor measurements data

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission &Distribution, Volume 17, Issue 10, Page 2331-2343, May 2023., 2023
Short‐term voltage stability is assessed based on phasor measurement data. The gradient concept is introduced to preprocess time series data and improve the classification. A weighted hybrid ensemble learning is proposed to predict short‐term voltage stability status in real‐time.

Enhancement of inter‐area oscillation damping by wide‐area controlled hydropower plants

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission &Distribution, Volume 17, Issue 4, Page 762-774, February 2023., 2023
In this work is presented, how the combined use of hydro governors and a wide‐area damping controller can improved the damping of occuring inter‐area oscillations in power systems. The presented centralized controller approach utilizes both, the path via the generator excitation with the voltage regulator and the path via the hydro governor for damping

Sequence of operations for real‐time control of microgrids and networked microgrids

open access: yesIET Renewable Power Generation, Volume 16, Issue 8, Page 1699-1718, 8 June 2022., 2022
Abstract Microgrids (MGs) provide a potential solution to accommodating renewable and distributed energy resources (DERs). MGs and the networked form of MGs, that is, networked MGs or NMGs, have received significant attention in the past two decades. However, several details that need to be considered for the practical operations of MGs and NMGs are ...

Real‐Time Testing of Synchrophasor‐Based Wide‐Area Monitoring System Applications Acknowledging the Potential Use of a Prototyping Software Toolchain

open access: yesInternational Transactions on Electrical Energy Systems, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
This article presents a study on real‐time testing of synchrophasor‐based “wide‐area monitoring system’s applications (WAMS application).” Considering the growing demand of real‐time testing of “wide‐area monitoring, protection, and control (WAMPAC)” applications, a systematic real‐time testing methodology is formulated and delineated in diagrams.

Islanding detection by phase difference method using a low cost quasi‐PMU

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission &Distribution, Volume 15, Issue 23, Page 3302-3314, December 2021., 2021
Abstract This paper presents a novel and cost‐effective solution for detecting the islanding condition at embedded generators using an innovative new type of phase angle detector, the "quasi‐PMU". The method works by checking the synchronism of the embedded generator with respect to a robust reference location.

Adding power of artificial intelligence to situational awareness of large interconnections dominated by inverter‐based resources

open access: yesHigh Voltage, Volume 6, Issue 6, Page 924-937, December 2021., 2021
Abstract Large‐scale power systems exhibit more complex dynamics due to the increasing integration of inverter‐based resources (IBRs). Therefore, there is an urgent need to enhance the situational awareness capability for better monitoring and control of power grids dominated by IBRs.

A Novel Security Methodology for Smart Grids: A Case Study of Microcomputer‐Based Encryption for PMU Devices

open access: yesComplexity, Volume 2021, Issue 1, 2021., 2021
Coordination of a power system with the phasor measurement devices (PMUs) in real time on the load and generation sides is carried out within the context of smart grid studies. Power systems equipped with information systems in a smart grid pace with external security threats. Developing a smart grid which can resist against cyber threats is considered

PRIME: a real‐time cyber‐physical systems testbed: from wide‐area monitoring, protection, and control prototyping to operator training and beyond

open access: yesIET Cyber-Physical Systems: Theory &Applications, Volume 5, Issue 2, Page 186-195, June 2020., 2020
As the power grid continues to evolve with advanced wide‐area monitoring, protection, and control (WAMPAC) algorithms, there is an increasing need for realistic testbed environments with industry‐grade software and hardware‐in‐the‐loop (HIL) to perform verification and validation studies.
