Housing the homeless: How revisiting the 1940s assists the struggle
Abstract A major obstacle in the political work of housing the homeless is convincing voters and lawmakers that housing is a right and should be available to all without conditions. This paper seeks to assist that project by showing that the tension between rights and conditions has a history. It focusses on the pivotal 1940s, which saw the first major

The fossil record of igneous rock [PDF]
A growing awareness of life in deep igneous crust expands our appreciation for life's distribution in the upper geosphere through time and space, and extends the known inhabitable realm of Earth an ...

Response of riparian vegetation to short‐ and long‐term hydrologic variation
Abstract Increasing demand for river water now conflicts with an increasing desire to maintain riparian ecosystems. Efficiently managing river flows for riparian vegetation requires an understanding of the time scale of flow effects, but this information is limited by the absence of long‐term studies of vegetation change in response to flow variation ...

The loess provenance areas of the Ebro and Móra basins are mainly the fluvial terraces of the Middle and Lower Ebro River, respectively, according to the analyses of very heavy minerals and particle size. The wind transport distances are relatively short (<100 km).

This paper uses a numerical landscape evolution model to reconstruct the topographic history of Madagascar since the Late Cretaceous. The model is optimised by balancing the volumes of onshore erosion and offshore sedimentation; the former is predicted with erosion laws and based on uplift history inferred from elevated planation surfaces.

Abstract A “fountain filling box” flow produced by discharging a weak laminar plane fountain in a confined open channel is studied numerically. Two‐dimensional direct numerical simulations were performed for weak plane fountains. The development of the fountain flow experiences five stages; the initial upflow and the subsequent downflow after the ...
