Investigation of ignition delay times for ethanol and the Brazilian gasoline
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2022<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">The prediction of ignition delay times is very useful during the development phase of internal combustion engines. When it comes to biofuels such as ethanol and its blends with gasoline, its importance is enhanced, especially when it comes to flex-fuel engines and the need to ...

Reaction and ignition delay times in the oxidation of propane
AIAA Journal, 1969Empirical correlations between "reaction" and "ignition delay" times and the pressure, temperature, and composition have been obtained for propaneoxygenargon mixtures. Experiments were conducted by shock heating these mixtures to initial pressures and temperatures between 0.5 and 5.5 atm and 1000° and 1600°K for equivalence ratios and dilutions in the ...

Ignition-delay times in laser initiated combustion
Applied Optics, 1981A single pulse from a TEA CO(2) laser is used to heat 1:7:14 mixtures of SF(6):CH(4):O(2) to temperatures near 1000 K. A short- or long-duration pulse (one-half the energy deposited in 0.25 or 0.82 microsec, respectively) from a second TEA CO(2) laser is used to ignite the mixture. At comparable values of absorbed energy from the second laser, ignition-

Ignition Delay Times of Jet-A/Air Mixtures
50th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting including the New Horizons Forum and Aerospace Exposition, 2012Ignition of Jet-A/air mixtures was studied behind reflected shock waves. Heating of shock tube at temperature of 150 0 C was used to prepare a homogeneous fuel mixture. Ignition delay times were measured from OH emission at 309 nm (A 2 Σ – X 2 Π) and from absorption of He-Ne laser radiation at 3.3922 µm.

Ignition Delay Time and Laminar Flame Velocity for a Combined Laser–Microwave Ignition
IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science, 2011An analysis of the ignition delay time dependence on microwave energy input time, electric field strength, and discharge energy at high-pressure conditions is presented for a combined laser-microwave ignition. The existence of a saturation power effect at high-pressure conditions is predicted.

Numerical simulation of ignition mode and ignition delay time of pulverized biomass particles
Combustion and Flame, 2019Abstract In this paper, numerical simulations were carried out to identify the mode of ignition and ignition delay time of pulverized biomass particles in hot flue gas produced by a methane/air flame. In the experiments, it was observed that for most biomass residues the dominant combustion mode was the staged gas-phase ignition in the surrounding ...

Analytical Solution for the Sensitivity Coefficients of Ignition Delay Times
The Journal of Physical Chemistry AIn this study, a theoretical analysis of the sensitivity coefficients of ignition delay times is performed by using eigenvalue analysis. Using H2/O2 and CH4/H2/O2 kinetic systems as examples, it is demonstrated that the analytical solutions achieve accurate predictions of the sensitivity coefficients of the ignition delay time as compared with the ...

Conditions and delay time of ignition of iron microparticles in oxygen
Journal of Engineering Physics and Thermophysics, 2012Experiments on autoignition and combustion of iron microparticles in oxygen have been conducted. The parameters of the gas medium were created using a rapid-compression machine. Investigations have been carried out on powders with particle size from 20 to 125 μm at an oxygen pressure of to 28 MPa and a temperature from 650 to 1100 K. The ignition delay

Kinetic effects of nanosecond discharge on ignition delay time
Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2016Abstract The effects of nanosecond discharge on ignition characteristics of a stoichiometric methane–air mixture without inert diluent gas were studied by numerical simulation at 0.1 MPa and an initial temperature of 1300 K. A modified non-equilibrium plasma kinetic model was developed to simulate the temporal evolution of particles produced during ...

Ignition delay time in swirling supersonic flow
Acta Astronautica, 2013Abstract Supersonic hydrogen–air cylindrical mixing layer is numerically analyzed to investigate the effect of inlet swirl on ignition delay time in scramjets. Combustion is treated using detailed chemical kinetics. One-equation turbulence model of Spalart and Allmaras is chosen to study the problem and advection upstream splitting method is used as ...
