Harnessing Optical Limiting in Saturable Absorbers for Reconfigurable Spectral Engineering of Ultrafast Fiber Lasers

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Optical limiting in a nanomaterial‐polymer saturable absorber is harnessed as a functional intracavity degree of freedom, where pump‐controlled photothermal loss continuously reshapes the gain spectrum of rare‐earth ions, enabling non‐mechanical spectral engineering in an ultrafast fiber laser.

Corrosion Performance of Steel and Zinc‐Based Materials in Diverse Unsaturated Soils: Insights From a 2‐Year Field Exposure

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, EarlyView.
The present study generated the corrosion performance of C‐steel, zinc, and galvanized steel in different global unsaturated soil environments for 2 years. Acceptable matching was observed between corrosion rates and identified corrosion products. To properly predict soil corrosion, the results showed that DIN 50929 should include a drainage‐capability

Polyglycerol‐Based Lipids: A Next‐Generation Alternative to PEG in Lipid Nanoparticles for Advanced Drug Delivery Systems

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
Linear polyglycerol is proposed as a PEG‐alternative in mRNA‐loaded lipid nanoparticles to limit activation of anti‐PEG antibodies and reduce immunogenicity. Resulting nanoparticles may provide similar gene delivery capabilities, while preventing binding of anti‐PEG antibodies compared to PEGylated counterparts.

The hunt for Scabiosa trenta Hacq: how the pursuit of a phantom ignited a passion for botany and mountaineering

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Scabiosa trenta Hacq. was first described in 1782 by Balthasar Hacquet, with its specific epithet referring to the Trenta Valley in Slovenia. Since then, S. trenta has been the focus of numerous mountaineering and botanical expeditions, particularly by the alpinist Julius Kugy during the Golden Age of Alpinism, a period in the second half of 19th ...
