Actinidia deliciosa Mitigates Oxidative Stress and Changes in Pancreatic α-, β-, and δ-Cells and Immunohistochemical and Histological Architecture in Diabetic Rats. [PDF]

open access: yesEvid Based Complement Alternat Med, 2022
The present study evaluated the antioxidant capacity and antidiabetic effect of Actinidia deliciosa in diabetic rats. Rats were grouped as follows: control, Actinidia deliciosa aqueous extract (ADAE, 1 g/kg, daily and orally), streptozotocin (STZ, 50 mg/kg BW, single intraperitoneal dose), and STZ plus ADAE, respectively.

The experience of a severe hypoglycaemic event from the perspective of people with diabetes and their caregivers: "What am I going to do?" [PDF]

open access: yesDiabet Med, 2022
Abstract Aims Among people with diabetes using insulin, severe hypoglycaemia (SH) can be a life‐threatening complication, if untreated. The personal experiences during an SH event from the perspectives of people with diabetes and their caregivers are not well‐characterized.

The challenge of assessing impaired awareness of hypoglycaemia in diabetes in the era of continuous glucose monitoring: A narrative review of evidence and translation into clinical practice. [PDF]

open access: yesDiabetes Obes Metab
Abstract Iatrogenic hypoglycaemia remains a major barrier in diabetes care. Over time, and with repeated hypoglycaemic episodes, the physiological responses to hypoglycaemia can become blunted, resulting in impaired awareness of hypoglycaemia (IAH). In IAH, the onset of cognitive dysfunction precedes the onset of autonomic symptoms, often preventing ...

Evaluating the impact of severe hypoglycaemia definition wording on severe hypoglycaemia history assessment. [PDF]

open access: yesDiabet Med
Abstract Aim Several wordings of the definition of severe hypoglycaemia (SH) exist. This study aims to evaluate how different SH definition wordings affect SH history assessment. Methods In this cross‐sectional study, surveys were emailed to registrants of the T1D Exchange, a U.S. national type 1 diabetes patient registry.

From Pathophysiology to Treatment: Contemporary Approaches to CFRD in the Pediatric and Adolescent Population. [PDF]

open access: yesPediatr Diabetes
Cystic fibrosis‐related diabetes (CFRD) is the most prevalent nonrespiratory complication of cystic fibrosis (CF), with its prominence growing as survival rates improve due to advances in CFTR modulator therapies. Its prevalence increases with age, affecting nearly 50% of patients with CF (PwCF) over 30 years old.

Hypoglycemia Induces Diabetic Macrovascular Endothelial Dysfunction via Endothelial Cell PANoptosis, Macrophage Polarization, and VSMC Fibrosis. [PDF]

open access: yesAdv Sci (Weinh)
This study investigates hypoglycemia‐induced diabetic macrovascular endothelial dysfunction. It reveals that hypoglycemia triggers ZBP1‐dependent PANoptosis of endothelial cells, proinflammatory polarization of macrophages, and fibrosis of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) in diabetic mice.

Ancient records and modern research on the mechanisms of chinese herbal medicines in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. [PDF]

open access: yesEvid Based Complement Alternat Med, 2015
Over the past decades, Chinese herbal medicines (CHM) have been extensively and intensively studied through from both clinical and experimental perspectives and CHM have been proved to be effective in the treatment of diabetes mellitus (DM). This study, by searching ancient records and modern research papers, reviewed CHM in terms of their clinical ...

Reducing the burden of hypoglycaemia in people with diabetes through increased understanding: design of the Hypoglycaemia REdefining SOLutions for better liVEs (Hypo-RESOLVE) project. [PDF]

open access: yesDiabet Med, 2020
Abstract Background Hypoglycaemia is the most frequent complication of treatment with insulin or insulin secretagogues in people with diabetes. Severe hypoglycaemia, i.e. an event requiring external help because of cognitive dysfunction, is associated with a higher risk of adverse cardiovascular outcomes and all‐cause mortality, but underlying ...

Treatment and prevention of severe hypoglycaemia in people with diabetes: Current and new formulations of glucagon. [PDF]

open access: yesDiabetes Obes Metab, 2020
Abstract Some therapies for diabetes increase the risk of hypoglycaemia, in particular all insulins and insulin secretagogues, including the glinides and sulfonylureas. Hypoglycaemia remains a major limiting factor to successful glycaemic management, despite the availability of prevention options such as insulin analogues, continuous glucose monitoring,
