Linking variation in genome size to cyst size in chrysophytes

Abstract Genome size varies tremendously across eukaryotes, which often contain far more DNA than expected from their biological complexity. To explain this paradox, selection‐based hypotheses propose that genome size evolves through selection acting on life‐history traits correlated with the phenotypic effects, independent of its genic content.

Circumscription of three new taxa of Merismopedia‐like Cyanobacteria shows how far convergent evolution can go

Abstract The genus Merismopedia (Merismopediaceae, Chroococcales), characterized by rectangular colonies with cells arranged in regular perpendicular rows and columns, represents a challenging study system due to its limited cultivability. Trypanosomal MICOS Is Assembled on Non‐Respiring Mitochondrial Crista Precursors and Associates With Two Integral Microproteins

The mitochondrial membrane‐shaping machinery MICOS is assembled surprisingly early during the life cycle of Trypanosoma brucei, before the mitochondrion acquires its mature architecture or full respiratory capacity. Our study also identifies two previously uncharacterized proteins associated with MICOS, providing new insight into the early organization
