Radiographic Anatomy and Clinical Value of the Modified Corner Approach in Interlaminar Endoscopic Lumbar Discectomy. [PDF]

open access: yesOrthop Surg
The modified corner approach is a simple, standard, and repeatable surgical approach with the intersection of the superior endplate and facet joint as the puncture target. For patients without or with mild facet joint degeneration, the puncture target can be appropriately moved inward by 2 mm.

On "Confirmatory" Methodological Research in Statistics and Related Fields. [PDF]

open access: yesStat Med
ABSTRACT Empirical substantive research, such as in the life or social sciences, is commonly categorized into the two modes exploratory and confirmatory, both of which are essential to scientific progress. The former is also referred to as hypothesis‐generating or data‐contingent research, while the latter is also called hypothesis‐testing research. In

An investigation into in-sample and out-of-sample model selection for nonstationary autoregressive models. [PDF]

open access: yesBr J Math Stat Psychol
Abstract The stationary autoregressive model forms an important base of time‐series analysis in today's psychology research. Diverse nonstationary extensions of this model are developed to capture different types of changing temporal dynamics. However, researchers do not always have a solid theoretical base to rely on for deciding a‐priori which of ...

Subsequent cardiac surgery after transcatheter aortic valve implantation: Indications and outcomes

open access: yesJournal of Cardiac Surgery, Volume 37, Issue 12, Page 5187-5194, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Background Aim of this study was to report on indications and clinical outcomes of patients who underwent subsequent open‐cardiac surgery after transcatheter aortic valve implantation TAVI. Methods Between 01/2011 and 12/2020 our centre performed 4043 TAVI procedures.

Lymph node ratio predicts efficacy of postoperative radiation therapy in nonmetastatic Merkel cell carcinoma: A population‐based analysis

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 11, Issue 22, Page 4204-4213, November 2022., 2022
There are no factors to select patients with non‐metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma for radiotherapy. Increased benefit from radiotherapy in patients with tumors >13.5 mm (node‐negative) and in those with lymph‐node ratio >0.215 (node‐positive) was observed, but not in T4 tumors (either group).

[Retracted] Provisional Decision‐Making for Perioperative Blood Pressure Management: A Narrative Review

open access: yesOxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
Blood pressure (BP) is a basic determinant for organ blood flow supply. Insufficient blood supply will cause tissue hypoxia, provoke cellular oxidative stress, and to some extent lead to organ injury. Perioperative BP is labile and dynamic, and intraoperative hypotension is common.

Analysis of spinal cord blood supply combining vascular corrosion casting and fluorescence microsphere technique: A feasibility study in an aortic surgical large animal model

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, Volume 34, Issue 4, Page 527-535, May 2021., 2021
Abstract Introduction Spinal cord ischemia after cardiovascular interventions continues to be a devastating problem in modern surgery. The role of intraspinal vascular networks and anterior radiculomedullary arteries (ARMA) in preventing spinal cord ischemia is poorly understood.

Cold non‐ischemic heart preservation with continuous perfusion prevents early graft failure in orthotopic pig‐to‐baboon xenotransplantation

open access: yesXenotransplantation, Volume 28, Issue 1, January/February 2021., 2021
Abstract Background Successful preclinical transplantations of porcine hearts into baboon recipients are required before commencing clinical trials. Despite years of research, over half of the orthotopic cardiac xenografts were lost during the first 48 hours after transplantation, primarily caused by perioperative cardiac xenograft dysfunction (PCXD ...

Impact of left ventricular assist device therapy on the cardiac proteome and metabolome composition in ischemic cardiomyopathy

open access: yesArtificial Organs, Volume 44, Issue 3, Page 257-267, March 2020., 2020
Abstract The changes in the myocardial proteome and metabolome associated with left ventricular assist device (LVAD) therapy in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM) are poorly characterized. We investigated the impact of mechanical unloading following LVAD therapy on the myocardial proteome and metabolome.
