The incidence of isolated iliac artery aneurysm is 1-2% of that of abdominal aortic aneurysms. The natural history is of gradual enlargement, with rupture the most common clinical presentation. The signs and symptoms of such an aneurysm are influenced by its concealed location within the bony pelvis.

Isolated iliac artery aneurysms.
Surgery, 1983The records of 50 patients with isolated iliac artery aneurysms seen between January 1970 and January 1982 were reviewed. Forty-seven were men and three were women. Their ages ranged from 41 to 92 years (mean 69.7 years). Aneurysm diameter ranged from 2 to 20 cm (mean 4.7 cm). Seventeen patients had multiple aneurysms.

Internal iliac artery aneurysms.
The New Zealand medical journal, 1977Information on 10 patients who presented because of aneurysms of the aorto-iliac segment of the arterial tree has been reviewed. Problems caused by aneurysmal dilatation of the internal iliac artery are discussed and a technique for the management of aneurysm at this site is described.
