Misoprostol and illegal abortion in Fortaleza, Brazil
The Lancet, 1993Misoprostol, a prostaglandin E1 analogue indicated for ulcer treatment, has been widely used as an abortifacient by women in Brazil, where abortion is legal only in cases of rape or incest, or to save the woman's life. Because misoprostol is an inefficient abortifacient, many women who use it have incomplete abortions and need uterine evacuation.

Illegal induced abortion — A continuing problem in Nigeria

Estimation of illegal abortions
Journal of Biosocial Science, 1969Figures published in the Hospital In-Patient Enquiry (1967), and also for a population of known size in Aberdeen, confirm a previous conclusion, derived primarily from mortality statistics, that currently accepted estimates of 100,000 illegal abortions in Great Britain each year before the Abortion Act 1967 came into operation are much exaggerated.

Illegal Abortions and Women's Reproductive Health
Medical Law International, 1998Deliberate termination of pregnancy is called induced abortion. It may be legal or illegal (if it violates any provision of “termination law”). Illegal and unsafe abortion is a hazard for women's reproductive health. In India, a tenth of maternal deaths are due to septic abortions. We do have termination law, which only barks but does not bite.

Illegal Abortion: Truth vs. Fiction
Liberty University Journal of Statesmanship & Public Policy, 2022Abortion has remained one of the most contentious issues in American political discourse ever since the Supreme Court legalized the procedure in the 1973 decision Roe v. Wade. Numerous emotional, statistical, and even Biblical arguments have been formulated in debates over this topic.

The incidence of illegal abortion
Population Studies, 1971Abstract Previous estimates of the incidence of illegal abortion in this country are reviewed. It is suggested that data examined by Goodhart imply that there were more (perhaps many more) than 60,000 illegal abortions in 1967. Estimates of the incidence of female sterilizing operations are reviewed.

ILLEGAL ABORTIONS AND THE ABORTION ACT 1967
The British Journal of Criminology, 1976It is sometimes inaccurately suggested that the relaxation of laws against abortion—as, for example, by the provisions of the Abortion Act 1967— constitutes a measure of " decriminalisation." In fact the Abortion Act did not decriminalise abortion in the sense that attempted suicide was decrimin alised in 1961, or in the sense that repeal of the ...

Clandestine Abortions are Not Necessarily Illegal
Family Planning Perspectives, 1991It is common to find the term illegal abortion misused. Often times this misuse is perpetrated by antiabortion advocates who wish to reinforce negative stereotypes and thus apply pressure on doctors to refrain from performing abortions. Until a practitioner is prosecuted and convicted of performing an abortion contrary to the law the procedure ...
