Hadashot Arkheologiyot - Excavations and Surveys in Israel, 2007
During February-March 2005 a salvage excavation was conducted on the southeastern fringes of Horbat 'Illit (Permit No. A-4385*; map ref. NIG 2030/6187; OIG 1530/1187), following an archaeological survey in the region carried out by A. Nagorski and H.

Phase relations among smectite, R1 illite-smectite, and illite
American Mineralogist, 1997A variety of smectitic and illitic clays were studied by TEM and AEM, following ex- pansion by L.R. White resin, to define phase relations for clay minerals undergoing di- genesis and low-grade metamorphism. Samples included a prograde shale sequence from the Gulf Coast, a hydrothermal bentonite from Zempleni, Hungary, and shales from the Nankai Trough,

Role of illite–illite interactions in oil sands processing
Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects, 2006Abstract The interaction and adhesion forces between illite particles and cleaved illite surface in aqueous solutions were measured using an atomic force microscope. Considering an extremely rough nature of the cleaved illite surfaces, a procedure was established to measure the forces between illite probes and raised spots on the cleaved surface. The

Retarded illite crystallinity caused by stressinduced sub-grain boundaries in illite
Clay Minerals, 2000AbstractAn XRD-TEM study was carried out on low-grade metapelites (Transantarctic Mountains) to determine the cause of apparent inconsistences in grade as determined by IC and independent geologic relations. The illite crystallinity (IC) data indicate that the three units investigated (BT, RBT, MS) were affected by very low- (IC = 0.24°Δ2θ in BT) to ...

EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES OF ILLITE
Clays and clay minerals (National Conference on Clays and Clay Minerals), 1958AbstractInvestigations in the system K2O-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2-H2O were made in an attempt to synthesize micas similar to illite and to determine their upper stability limits. These are representative of materials referred to by many clay mineralogists as illite, hydromuscovite and K-bentonite.

K-Ar dating of illite fundamental particles separated from illite-smectite
Clay Minerals, 1997AbstractFundamental particles of illite-smectite from bentonites were separated into classes by high-speed centrifugation after infinite osmotic swelling of mixed-layer crystals, achieved by Na-exchange and dispersion in distilled water. In samples free of detrital contamination, the thinnest fundamental particles yield older K-Ar ages than the thicker

The average potassium oxide content of 18 Paleozoic two-layer monoclinic illites is 8.75 percent. There is an excellent linear relation between the ratio of the intensities of the reflections at 10 angstroms and 5 angstroms (10 Å/5 Å) and the potassium oxide content.
