The Illusion of State in State-Space Models
International Conference on Machine LearningState-space models (SSMs) have emerged as a potential alternative architecture for building large language models (LLMs) compared to the previously ubiquitous transformer architecture.

Perception, 2015
Effect of perceptual inversion on illusion figures seen monocularly was explored using Ponzo and Muller-Lyer stimuli. It was found that inversion nullified the Ponzo effect but not the Muller-Lyer effect. This suggests that the determinants of the two illusory effects differ in their origin.

Visual Neuroscience, 2006
The discoloration illusion, a new visual phenomenon, is described. This phenomenon originates from the juxtaposition of eight chromatic parallel contours on a white background, creating a luminance gradient and enclosing a light red region. Under these conditions, the inner region appears white: the light red discolors and appears white with both ...

Thermal illusion with twinborn-like heat signatures
International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2018Thermal illusion device, which can change an arbitrary object into another one when observed from an infrared vision, recently has attracted considerable attention amongst a series of innovative thermal phenomena by resorting to the unique thermal ...

The Okuma Illusion: A New Illusion of Leaning
Perception, 2012A new illusion demonstrating the perception of tilted objects is reported. Physically, all the objects in a rotated image should tilt at the same degree. We, however, found that the tilt of objects in a rotated frame is perceived differently. We tested several objects and found that this phenomenon is especially noticeable when an element in the image ...

The Poggendorff Illusion: An Illusion of Linear Extent?
Perception, 1981In the standard version of the Poggendorff figure a transversal intersects two parallel verticals and the segment of the transversal between the two intersection points, A and B, is not shown. The two portions of the transversal outside the parallels then seem to be misaligned. Besides this illusion of direction, there is also an illusion of size, the

Auditory Cues Influence the Rubber-Hand Illusion
Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 2018The perception of one’s own body depends on the dynamic integration of signals from different sensory modalities. Earlier studies have shown that visual, tactile, and proprioceptive information contributes to this process.

Is the illusion of conscious will an illusion?
Behavioral and Brain Sciences, 2004This book is a tour de force in showing that what we believe to be actions dictated by conscious will are not, in fact, wholly dictated by conscious will. However, Wegner has fallen into the trap of making claims that go beyond his data to make his case more compelling and newsworthy. Psychology needs to be informed by common sense.
