Estimating alignment errors in sets of images

2004 2nd IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging: Macro to Nano (IEEE Cat No. 04EX821), 2005
We describe a robust and accurate method for the estimation of alignment errors for sets of two-dimensional images, in the case where the true pattern is unknown. The intended application of the proposed method is cryoelectron microscopy, where two-dimensional views of individual proteins are observed in the electron microscope in random orientations ...

Borehole image correspondence and automated alignment

2017 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2017
Borehole images are often misaligned due to a depth offset in the acquisition sensors of a wireline tool. We propose an algorithm that identifies matching feature points and aligns the image. One of the main challenges is that imaging pads have no azimuthal overlap.

Robust Image Alignment for Tampering Detection

IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security, 2012
The widespread use of classic and newest technologies available on Internet (e.g., emails, social networks, digital repositories) has induced a growing interest on systems able to protect the visual content against malicious manipulations that could be performed during their transmission.

Weakly supervised alignment of multisensor images

2015 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2015
Manifold alignment has become very popular in recent literature. Aligning data distributions prior to product generation is an appealing strategy, since it allows to provide data spaces that are more similar to each other, regardless of the subsequent use of the transformed data.

3D Alignment of Face in a Single Image

2006 IEEE Computer Society Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition - Volume 1 (CVPR'06), 2006
We present an approach for aligning a 3D deformable model to a single face image. The model consists of a set of sparse 3D points and the view-based patches associated with every point. Assuming a weak perspective projection model, our algorithm iteratively deforms the model and ad- justs the 3D pose to fit the image. As opposed to previous approaches,

Recognizing solid objects by alignment with an image

International Journal of Computer Vision, 1990
In this paper we consider the problem of recognizing solid objects from a single two-dimensional image of a three-dimensional scene. We develop a new method for computing a transformation from a three-dimensional model coordinate frame to the two-dimensional image coordinate frame, using three pairs of model and image points.

A robust method for alignment of histological images

Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine, 2005
Determination of reference points is a precondition for reconstruction of serial sections. In the case of comprehensive reconstruction work, manual extraction of the markers may be very time-consuming and may even make such reconstruction impossible. The procedure presented in this contribution allows automatic alignment of histological preparations ...
