Cracking the Code: Which Ocular Symptoms Predict Dry Eye Signs? Insights From a Large International Sicca Registry

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The study aimed to identify symptom‐based predictors of dry eye disease (DED) signs in the Sjögren's International Collaborative Clinical Alliance (SICCA) cohort. Methods We performed a retrospective analysis examining 16 ocular symptoms (most graded 0–4) and artificial tear (AT) use (graded 0–3) as predictors of DED signs (abnormal ocular ...

CTU Layer Rate Control Algorithm in Scene Change Video for Free-Viewpoint Video

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
At present, the rate control algorithm for multiview high-efficiency video coding (MV-HEVC) does not have the capability of efficient coding tree unit(CTU) layer bit allocation, and the video quality varies greatly for sequences with sudden scene changes

Blocking artefacts reduction based on a ripple matrix permutation image of high‐frequency images in the wavelet domain

open access: yesIET Image Processing, 2021
Block compressed sensing (BCS) approaches based on matrix permutations effectively reduce blocking artefacts in the high‐quality reconstruction of images. To further reduce the blocking artefacts, the paper proposes a novel method for their processing in

Error-resilient performance of Dirac video codec over packet-erasure channel

open access: yes, 2007
Video transmission over the wireless or wired network requires error-resilient mechanism since compressed video bitstreams are sensitive to transmission errors because of the use of predictive coding and variable length coding.

Perceptually optimised sign language video coding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Mobile video telephony will enable deaf people to communicate in their own language, sign language. At low bit rates coding of sign language video is challenging due the high levels of motion and the need to maintain good image quality to aid with ...

Field Report from Collaborative Research Center 1625: Heterogeneous Research Data Management Using Ontology Representations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A unified research data management framework for heterogeneous materials data is presented. The system integrates multimodal datasets using ontologies and knowledge graphs, enabling interoperability and FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) data principles. By linking data across scales and workflows, it supports reproducible, Artifitial

Fatigue Crack Initiation and Growth in Nanocrystalline Ni at Multiple Length‐Scales

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Overview of miniaturized in situ SEM fatigue setup and resultant fatigue crack growth data for nanocrystalline Ni. The presented study focuses on the analysis of fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR) in focused ion beam‐notched microcantilevers prepared from nanocrystalline (NC) Ni as a model material.

Low-complexity lossless codes for image and video coding [PDF]

open access: yesSPIE Proceedings, 2010
We describe design of lossless block codes for geometric, Laplacian, and similar distributions frequently arising in image and video coding. Proposed codes can be understood as a generalization of Golomb codes, allowing more precise adaptation to values of parameters of distributions, and resulting in lower redundancy.
