I2N: image to nutrients, a sensor guided semi-automated tool for annotation of images for nutrition analysis of eating episodes

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition, 2023
IntroductionDietary assessment is important for understanding nutritional status. Traditional methods of monitoring food intake through self-report such as diet diaries, 24-hour dietary recall, and food frequency questionnaires may be subject to errors ...

Towards CGAN-based Satellite Image Synthesis with Partial Pixel-Wise Annotation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Conditional Generative Adversarial Nets (CGANs) need a significantly huge dataset with a detailed pixel-wise annotation to generate high-quality images. Unfortunately, any amount of missing pixel annotations may significantly impact the result not only locally, but also in annotated areas.

AISO: Annotation of Image Segments with Ontologies [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Semantics, 2014
Large quantities of digital images are now generated for biological collections, including those developed in projects premised on the high-throughput screening of genome-phenome experiments. These images often carry annotations on taxonomy and observable features, such as anatomical structures and phenotype variations often recorded in response to the

Identification of novel small molecule inhibitors of ETS transcription factors

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
ETS transcription factors play an essential role in tumourigenesis and are indispensable for sprouting angiogenesis, a hallmark of cancer, which fuels tumour expansion and dissemination. Thus, targeting ETS transcription factor function could represent an effective, multifaceted strategy to block tumour growth. The evolutionarily conserved E‐Twenty‐Six

How machines see the world: Understanding image annotation

open access: yesNECSUS, 2018
Michael Baxandall, in PAINTING AND EXPERIENCE IN 15TH CENTURY ITALY (1972), shows the existence of a series of rules that painters of the 15th century were advised to follow.

Modeling, Classifying and Annotating Weakly Annotated Images Using Bayesian Network [PDF]

open access: yes2009 10th International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition, 2009
We propose a probabilistic graphical model to represent weakly annotated images. This model is used to classify images and automatically extend existing annotations to new images by taking into account semantic relations between keywords. The proposed method has been evaluated in classification and automatic annotation of images.

The Saccharomyces cerevisiae amino acid transporter Lyp1 has a broad substrate spectrum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Yeast Amino acid Transporter family members mediate the import of amino acids, ranging from substrate specialists to generalists. Here, we show that the specialist transporter, Lyp1, has a broader substrate spectrum than previously described, with affinity constants spanning from micromolar to millimolar.

Social context prevents heat hormetic effects against mutagens during fish development

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows that sublethal heat stress protects fish embryos against ultraviolet radiation, a concept known as ‘hormesis’. However, chemical stress transmission between fish embryos negates this protective effect. By providing evidence for the mechanistic molecular basis of heat stress hormesis and interindividual stress communication, this study ...

Cross-Model Image Annotation Platform with Active Learning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
We have seen significant leapfrog advancement in machine learning in recent decades. The central idea of machine learnability lies on constructing learning algorithms that learn from good data. The availability of more data being made publicly available also accelerates the growth of AI in recent years.

Semantic annotation of image processing tools [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 2nd International Conference on Web Intelligence, Mining and Semantics, 2012
Collaborative biomedical imaging research raises the issue of coherently sharing data and processing tools involved in multicentric studies. Federative approaches are gaining increasing credibility and success to build distributed collaborative platforms.
