Closed Interlocking Tibial Nailing without using an Image Intensifier

open access: yesJournal of Islamic International Medical College, 2011
Introduction: Internal fixation with interlocking nails is commonly performed using an image intensifier which is expensive and is not readily available in most resource-poor countries of the world.

A Rare Incidence of Breakage of tip of Micropituitary Forceps during Percutaneous Discectomy - How to Remove it: A Case Report [PDF]

open access: yesMalaysian Orthopaedic Journal, 2015
Breakage of the tip of the micropituitary forceps during spine surgery is a rare occurrence. Retrieval of the broken tip could be a challenge in minimally invasive surgeries due to limitation of access and retrieval instruments.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Ultrasound or image intensifier for closed femoral nailing

open access: yes, 1993
We describe a method of closed, unlocked nailing for femoral fractures using ultrasound instead of an image intensifier. Radiography was used only to confirm that the guide wire had been passed into the intramedullary canal of both fragments. The method

Unusual Foreign Body of Parotid Gland Presenting as Sialolithiasis: Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesCase Reports in Otolaryngology, 2012
This case report highlights an unusual case where a foreign body in the parotid gland was initially thought to be sialolithiasis based on CT scans. The foreign body was safely retrieved from the parotid gland without formal superficial parotidectomy ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

The image intensifier as an operating table -a dangerous practice

open access: yes, 2000
We wish to draw attention to the potential dangers of using the C-arm radiolucent plate of an image intensifier as an operating table.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.
