SYNOSIS: Image Synthesis Pipeline for Machine Vision in Metal Surface Inspection

open access: yesSensors
The use of machine learning methods for the development of robust and flexible visual inspection systems has shown promising results. However, their performance is highly dependent on the large amount and diversity of training data, which is difficult to

Effects of Mathematics Anxiety and Mathematical Metacognition on Word Problem Solving in Children with and without Mathematical Learning Difficulties.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Mathematics is one of the most objective, logical, and practical academic disciplines. Yet, in addition to cognitive skills, mathematical problem solving also involves affective factors.

De l’événement au problème. Archéologie d’un paradigme mathématique [PDF]

open access: yesLa Deleuziana, 2020
The article deals with the presence in Deleuze of an image of mathematical thought centered on the idea of problem. This vision of mathematics, which Emile Bréhier’s studies trace back to the Stoic and Neoplatonic philosophies, feeds romantic thought as ...

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

Local Low-Rank and Sparse Representation for Hyperspectral Image Denoising

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
Hyperspectral image (HSI) denoising is a fundamental task in a plethora of HSI applications. Global low-rank property is widely adopted to exploit the spectral-spatial information of HSIs, providing satisfactory denoising results.

Hydrogen‐Assisted Fracture of Iron‐Based Fe–Ni–Al Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Principal relations and fracture mechanisms of single‐phase and precipitate‐strengthened Fe–Ni–Al alloys subjected to prior electrochemical hydrogen charging are identified. The mechanisms of hydrogen effect on strength and microhardness are discussed, including hydrogen‐induced increase in microhardness and the role of hydrogen in fracture behavior ...

Randomized Sparse Block Kaczmarz as Randomized Dual Block-Coordinate Descent

open access: yesAnalele Stiintifice ale Universitatii Ovidius Constanta: Seria Matematica, 2015
We show that the Sparse Kaczmarz method is a particular instance of the coordinate gradient method applied to an unconstrained dual problem corresponding to a regularized ℓ1-minimization problem subject to linear constraints.

Fatigue Crack Initiation and Growth in Nanocrystalline Ni at Multiple Length‐Scales

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Overview of miniaturized in situ SEM fatigue setup and resultant fatigue crack growth data for nanocrystalline Ni. The presented study focuses on the analysis of fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR) in focused ion beam‐notched microcantilevers prepared from nanocrystalline (NC) Ni as a model material.

Workflow for Design of Experiments‐Based Modeling of Species Transport and Growth Kinetics in GaN Hydride Vapor Phase Epitaxy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.
