Cannon-Thurston Maps for Kleinian Groups
We show that Cannon-Thurston maps exist for degenerate free groups without parabolics, i.e. for handlebody groups. Combining these techniques with earlier work proving the existence of Cannon-Thurston maps for surface groups, we show that Cannon-Thurston

Long‐Term Temporal Profile of Motor Recovery After Intracerebral Hemorrhage
ABSTRACT Objective Limited data is available to describe the temporal profile of long‐term recovery over 1 year after the stroke in patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Methods A registered multicentral cohort was conducted to consecutively include non‐herniated supratentorial ICH patients from November 2013 to January 2023 ...

ICU‐EEG Pattern Detection by a Convolutional Neural Network
ABSTRACT Objective Patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) often require continuous EEG (cEEG) monitoring due to the high risk of seizures and rhythmic and periodic patterns (RPPs). However, interpreting cEEG in real time is resource‐intensive and heavily relies on specialized expertise, which is not always available.

On the Fuzzy Opening Morphological Operator
Context: Interior operators have interesting properties that can be used in detecting relevant features in digital images. In this respect, it is pertinent to study the behaviour of the opening and erosion operators from the perspective of fuzzy ...

A Q‐Learning Algorithm to Solve the Two‐Player Zero‐Sum Game Problem for Nonlinear Systems
A Q‐learning algorithm to solve the two‐player zero‐sum game problem for nonlinear systems. ABSTRACT This paper deals with the two‐player zero‐sum game problem, which is a bounded L2$$ {L}_2 $$‐gain robust control problem. Finding an analytical solution to the complex Hamilton‐Jacobi‐Issacs (HJI) equation is a challenging task.

Modeling Variational Inpainting Methods With Splines
Mathematical methods of image inpainting often involve the discretization of a given continuous model. Typically, this is done by a pointwise discretization.

New approaches to teaching and learning in engineering at the University of Strathclyde [PDF]
Mathematics is perceived as a difficult subject within engineering or science degree courses. Traditional lectures, with students passively listening to the lecturer or transcribing notes, do little for the students' image of mathematics.

The unrolling of the peltate leaves in Syngonium podophyllum is analyzed and quantified (left‐hand side to center). These measurements serve to verify a mathematical model for leaf unrolling based on the model used in Schmidt (2007). An additional formula for obtaining a layer mismatch from a prescribed radius is derived.
