Sparse representation of astronomical images [PDF]
Sparse representation of astronomical images is discussed. It is shown that a significant gain in sparsity is achieved when particular mixed dictionaries are used for approximating these types of images with greedy selection strategies. Experiments are conducted to confirm: i)Effectiveness at producing sparse representations.

Generating Images with Sparse Representations
The high dimensionality of images presents architecture and sampling-efficiency challenges for likelihood-based generative models. Previous approaches such as VQ-VAE use deep autoencoders to obtain compact representations, which are more practical as inputs for likelihood-based models.

On basis images for the digital image representation
Digital array orthogonal transformations that can be presented as a decomposition over basis items or basis images are considered. The orthogonal transform provides digital data scattering, a process of pixel energy redistributing, that is illustrated with the help of basis images.

Learning the representation of instrument images in laparoscopy videos
Automatic recognition of instruments in laparoscopy videos poses many challenges that need to be addressed, like identifying multiple instruments appearing in various representations and in different lighting conditions, which in turn may be occluded by ...

Parallax‐based second‐order mixed attention for stereo image super‐resolution
Stereo image pairs can effectively enhance the performance of super‐resolution (SR) since both intra‐view and cross‐view information can be used. However, exploiting cross‐view information accurately is extremely challenging.

The Momentum Map Representation of Images [PDF]
This paper discusses the mathematical framework for designing methods of large deformation matching (LDM) for image registration in computational anatomy. After reviewing the geometrical framework of LDM image registration methods, a theorem is proved showing that these methods may be designed by using the actions of diffeomorphisms on the image data ...

Extended IMD2020: a large‐scale annotated dataset tailored for detecting manipulated images
Image forensic datasets need to accommodate a complex diversity of systematic noise and intrinsic image artefacts to prevent any overfitting of learning methods to a small set of camera types or manipulation techniques.

VGAN-Based Image Representation Learning for Privacy-Preserving Facial Expression Recognition [PDF]
Reliable facial expression recognition plays a critical role in human-machine interactions. However, most of the facial expression analysis methodologies proposed to date pay little or no attention to the protection of a user's privacy. In this paper, we
