Multidimensional image retargeting
SIGGRAPH Asia 2011 Courses, 2011Retargeting refers to the process by which an image or video is adapted from the display device for which it was meant (target display) to another one (retarget display). The retarget display has different features from the target one such as dynamic range, discretization levels, color gamut, multi-view, and refresh rate spatial resolution.

2015 Visual Communications and Image Processing (VCIP), 2015
An image retargeting method is presented in this paper, which uses multiple operators to improve the performance. In the method, cropping is adopted first in order to remove non-important content to the desired aspect ratio while keeping significant content intact.

SeamCrop for image retargeting
SPIE Proceedings, 2012In this paper, we present a novel approach for the adaptation of large images to small display sizes. As a recent study suggests, most viewers prefer the loss of content over the insertion of deformations in the retargeting process.1 Therefore, we combine the two image retargeting operators seam carving and cropping in order to resize an image ...

Image retargeting for wearable devices
2016 IEEE International Conference on Consumer Electronics (ICCE), 2016Small displays on wearable devices pose new challenges to presenting images. Image retargeting methods developed for mobile devices assume larger displays and are not adequate. This paper reports new approaches to image retargeting for wearable devices.

Image retargeting quality assessment: A survey
Journal of Intelligent & Fuzzy Systems, 2023With the increasing variety of display devices, image retargeting has become an indispensable technology for adjusting the aspect ratio of images to adapt to different display terminals. Since the retargeting operation would cause geometric distortion and content loss of the image, the image retargeting quality assessment (IRQA) is necessary to guide ...

Multi-layered image retargeting
2012 19th IEEE International Conference on Image Processing, 2012Pixel domain methods for content-aware image retargeting have a performance limitation in that they distort important objects when an image is shrunken too much. To address this problem, we have designed and developed a novel 3D space domain image retargeting which rearranges objects with occlusions and deforms objects. With this method image formation

Learning to Assess Image Retargeting
Proceedings of the 22nd ACM international conference on Multimedia, 2014Content-aware image retargeting enables images to fit different devices with various aspect ratios while preserving salient contents. Meanwhile, assessing the quality of image retargeting and unifying both subjective and objective evaluation have become a prominent challenge.

Effective retargeting for image coding
2013 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS2013), 2013An effective retargeting scheme is presented in this paper in order to improve the efficiency of image coding. Firstly, we propose to calculate the information loss in image retargeting based on learning. Then before encoding an image, we divide the image into several grids and retarget each grid according to our learning results.

Image Retargeting in Compressed Domain
2010 20th International Conference on Pattern Recognition, 2010A simple algorithm for image retargeting in the compressed domain is proposed. Most existing retargeting algorithms work directly in the spatial domain of the raw image. Here, we work on the DCT coefficients of a JPEG-compressed image to generate a gradient map that serves as an importance map to help identify those parts in the image that need to be ...
