Fitting‐based optimisation for image visual salient object detection

open access: yesIET Computer Vision, 2017
To overcome some major problems with traditional saliency evaluation metrics, full‐reference image quality assessment (IQA) metrics, which have similar but stricter objectives, are used.

Multi-focus image fusion using maximum symmetric surround saliency detection

open access: yesELCVIA Electronic Letters on Computer Vision and Image Analysis, 2016
In digital photography, two or more objects of a scene cannot be focused at the same time. If we focus one object, we may lose information about other objects and vice versa.

Flexible 3D Kirigami Probes for In Vitro and In Vivo Neural Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A customizable and scalable approach to fabricate flexible 3D kirigami microelectrode arrays (MEAs) featuring up to 128 shanks, including surface and penetrating electrodes designed to interact with the 3D space of neural tissue, is presented. The 3D kirigami MEAs are successfully deployed in several neural applications, both in vitro and in vivo, and ...

Recent Advances in Wide‐Bandgap Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ubiquitous defects predominately account for photo‐instability and open‐circuit voltage losses in wide‐bandgap perovskite solar cells (WBG PSCs). This review comprehensively presents the underlying impact mechanisms, summarizes the advanced optimization strategies across various functional layers and their interfaces to develop efficient and stable WBG

Sanity Checks for Saliency Metrics [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Saliency maps are a popular approach to creating post-hoc explanations of image classifier outputs. These methods produce estimates of the relevance of each pixel to the classification output score, which can be displayed as a saliency map that highlights important pixels. Despite a proliferation of such methods, little effort has been made to quantify

Image Co-Saliency Detection and Co-Segmentation via Progressive Joint Optimization

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2019
We present a novel computational model for simultaneous image co-saliency detection and co-segmentation that concurrently explores the concepts of saliency and objectness in multiple images.

Synthetic Active Liquid Crystals Powered by Acoustic Waves

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A fully synthetic active liquid crystal, energized by an acoustic field, is presented. This system exhibits active nematic behavior, tunable topological defect dynamics, and persistent hydrodynamic vortices at high activity levels. The material maintains stable properties while enabling precise activity control in a wide range.

Visual Saliency Modeling for River Detection in High-Resolution SAR Imagery

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
Accurate detection of rivers plays a significant role in water conservancy construction and ecological protection, where airborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data have already become one of the main sources.

Intrinsically‐Stretchable and Patternable Quantum Dot Color Conversion Layers for Stretchable Displays in Robotic Skin and Wearable Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Intrinsically‐stretchable, heavy‐metal‐free quantum dot color conversion layers are produced via a versatile crosslinking strategy. The color conversion layers exhibit minimal backlight leakage under mechanical strain, support high‐resolution patterning, and integrate seamlessly with micro‐light‐emitting diodes. Their incorporation in haptic‐responsive

Thermally Activated Swelling and Wetting Transition of Frozen Polymer Brushes:a New Concept for Surface Functionalization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A novel approach is introduced that leverages polymer phase transitions to modulate brush behavior. The oleophilic bottle brush system exhibits two distinct melting transitions—bulk and surface—enabling a two‐stage swelling and wetting transition.
