Multi-style image transfer system using conditional cycleGAN

open access: yes, 2020
This paper aims to extend the capability of Cycle-Consistent Adversarial Network (CycleGAN) by equipping it with a conditional constraint and extend it into a multi-style image transfer system that can transfer images among more than two image domains ...

Style Transfer Via Image Component Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Multimedia, 2013
Example-based stylization provides an easy way of making artistic effects for images and videos. However, most existing methods do not consider the content and style separately. In this paper, we propose a style transfer algorithm via a novel component analysis approach, based on various image processing techniques.

Liver organoids: modelling complexity in homeostasis and disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Studying liver in vitro has been challenging because simple 2D cell cultures fail to capture liver's cellular and architectural complexity. To bridge this gap, scientists increasingly use organoids, 3D liver models which better mimic liver composition and function. This review examines recent advances in liver organoid complexity and realism, discusses

Partial depletion of plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 decreases subcutaneous fat cell hypertrophy and liver cholesterol in high‐fat‐fed female mice

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.

Application and optimization of image style transfer in modern graphic design

open access: yesPaladyn
The rich micro level and fine-grained features in digital images are often presented in a mixed manner, making it difficult to effectively separate and preserve them in style transfer, which increases the difficulty of technical implementation.

Emerging experimental and computational methods for studying redox‐regulated structural transitions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Redox reactions can reshape proteins and alter how they behave in cells, with important consequences for health and disease. This review explores emerging experimental and computational approaches for discovering these redox‐sensitive protein switches, revealing their structural effects, and predicting their behavior, opening new opportunities to ...

Exemplar-Based Portrait Style Transfer

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
Transferring the style of an example image to a content image opens the door of artistic creation for end users. However, it is especially challenging for portrait photos since human vision system is sensitive to the slight artifacts on portraits ...

Synergistic perspectives—How single‐molecule biophysics complement biochemical understanding

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this review, we discuss how ensemble biochemistry and single‐molecule approaches are complementary, outline commonly used single‐molecule techniques, and illustrate their relevance through two representative case studies: chromatin organization by SMC complexes and pathway choice during DNA double‐strand break repair.

Translophagy—A potential link between autophagy impairment and translational errors

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neurodegenerative diseases are characterised by the accumulation of abnormal proteins and protein aggregates, but their origin often remains unknown. We propose that selective autophagy removes damaged protein‐making machinery, preventing errors during protein synthesis.
