Phantoms for Magnetic Resonance Imaging
2013Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provides exceptional soft tissue contrast and is capable of generating quantitative maps to demonstrate blood flow, water diffusion, temperature distribution, and tissue relaxation properties.

Polymer gels for in-phantom dose imaging in radiotherapy
Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2010Normoxic polymer gel dosimeters are studied, with the aim of achieving a valid and advantageous method for in-phantom 3D dose determinations. Developments were carried out in the application of such dosimetric material to the method based on dosimeter gel layers that has shown good reliability for absorbed dose imaging in radiotherapy.

Phantom kidney on perfusion renal imaging
Seminars in Nuclear Medicine, 1984A 67-year-old male presented with sudden onset of right flank pain and anuria. On examination he had signs of acute renal failure. An intravenous urogram showed a large right kidney with poor filling of the lower pole calyceal system suspicious for having a renal mass. The left kidney was not visualized. Renal ultrasonogram showed that the right kidney

Nonlinear elasticity imaging: Theory and phantom study
IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, 2004In tissue the Young's modulus cannot be assumed constant over a wide deformation range. For example, direct mechanical measurements on human prostate show up to a threefold increase in Young's modulus over a 10% deformation. In conventional elasticity imaging, these effects produce strain-dependent elastic contrast.

Computerized scheme for evaluating mammographic phantom images
Medical Physics, 2012The authors developed a computer algorithm to automatically evaluate images of the American College of Radiology (ACR) mammography accreditation phantom. The developed algorithm consist of the edge detection of wax insert, nonuniformity correction of background, and correction for magnification and also calculate the cross-correlation coefficient by ...

An anthropomorphic torso section phantom for ultrasonic imaging
Medical Physics, 1980Using stable materials capable of mimicking any soft tissues of the human body—quantitatively with respect to speed of sound, density, and attenuation coefficient and semiquantitatively with respect to scatter—we have constructed a torso section phantom containing simulated bowel gas, kidney, kidney fat pad, liver, tumor, cyst, bony structures, and ...

The Charles Bonnet Syndrome: ‘Phantom Visual Images’
Perception, 1991The Charles Bonnet syndrome is a condition in which individuals experience complex visual hallucinations without demonstrable psychopathology or disturbance of normal consciousness. An analysis of the sixty-four cases described in the literature reveals that the syndrome can occur at any age though it is more common in elderly people.
