Evolutionary interplay between viruses and R‐loops

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses interact with specialized nucleic acid structures called R‐loops to influence host transcription, epigenetic states, latency, and immune evasion. This Perspective examines the roles of R‐loops in viral replication, integration, and silencing, and how viruses co‐opt or avoid these structures.

Acoustic images of gel dosimetry phantoms

open access: yesPhysics Procedia, 2010
AbstractThis work presents Vibro-acoustography (VA) as a tool to visualize absorbed dose in a polymer gel dosimetry phantom. VA relies on the mechanical excitation introduced by the acoustic radiation force of focused modulated ultrasound in a small region of the object. A hydrophone or microphone is used to measure the sound emitted from the object in

The epithelial barrier theory proposes a comprehensive explanation for the origins of allergic and other chronic noncommunicable diseases

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Exposure to common noxious agents (1), including allergens, pollutants, and micro‐nanoplastics, can cause epithelial barrier damage (2) in our body's protective linings. This may trigger an immune response to our microbiome (3). The epithelial barrier theory explains how this process can lead to chronic noncommunicable diseases (4) affecting organs ...

Effects of the Phantom Shape on the Gradient Artefact of Electroencephalography (EEG) Data in Simultaneous EEG–fMRI

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
Electroencephalography (EEG) signals greatly suffer from gradient artefacts (GAs) due to the time-varying field gradients in the magnetic resonance (MR) scanner during the simultaneous acquisition of EEG and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI ...

Tutorial on phantoms for photoacoustic imaging applications

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Optics
Photoacoustic imaging (PAI) is an emerging technology that holds high promise in a wide range of clinical applications, but standardized methods for system testing are lacking, impeding objective device performance evaluation, calibration, and inter-device comparisons.
