Remote sensing with radar is typically an ill-posed linear inverse problem: a scene is to be inferred from limited measurements of scattered electric fields. Parsimonious models provide a compressed representation of the unknown scene and offer a means for regularizing the inversion task.

Radar imaging of the lunar poles

Long-wavelength measurements reveal a paucity of ice in the Moon's polar craters. We have used a radio telescope at Arecibo Observatory, Puerto Rico, to map features of the lunar poles — some as small as 300 metres across — by collecting long-wavelength radar images that can penetrate several metres of lunar dust.

A single-chip false target radar image generator for countering wideband imaging radars

This paper describes the theory, design, implementation, simulation, and testing of an ASIC capable of generating false target radar images for countering wideband synthetic aperture and inverse synthetic aperture imaging radars. The 5.5 /spl times/ 6.1 mm IC has 81632 transistors, 132 I/O pins, and consumes 0.132 W at 70 MHz from a 3.3-V supply.
