Growth Stage Classification and Harvest Scheduling of Snap Bean Using Hyperspectral Sensing: A Greenhouse Study

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
The agricultural industry suffers from a significant amount of food waste, some of which originates from an inability to apply site-specific management at the farm-level.

Surface Tension Measurement of Ti‐6Al‐4V by Falling Droplet Method in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this article, the temperature‐dependent surface tension of free falling, oscillating Ti‐6Al‐4V droplets is investigated in both argon and monosilane doped, oxygen‐free atmosphere. Droplet temperature and oscillation are captured with one single high‐speed camera, and the surface tension is calculated with Rayleigh's formula.

Simultaneous PMC and PMSE observations with a ground-based lidar and SuperDARN HF radar at Syowa Station, Antarctica [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2013
A Rayleigh–Raman lidar system was installed in January 2011 at Syowa Station, Antarctica (69.0° S, 39.6° E). Polar mesospheric clouds (PMCs) were detected by lidar at around 22:30 UTC (LT −3 h) on 4 February 2011, which was the first day of ...

Image organization and navigation strategies for a radiological work station [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Digital Imaging, 1989
One can distinguish two distinct preliminary phases in the "analog" radiographs reading process. The first phase deals with the film selection and placement on viewboxes (image organization), and the second with the actual film reading (involving image navigation, ie, the means for accessing the individual images).

Hunting for binary Cepheids using lucky imaging technique [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Detecting companions to Cepheids is difficult. In most cases the bright pulsator overshines the fainter secondary. Since Cepheids play a key role in determining the cosmic distance scale it is crucial to find binaries among the calibrating stars of the ...

Bioinspired Shape‐Memory Hook Fasteners With Programmable Interlocking and Silent Release

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Bioinspired hook fasteners made from epoxy shape‐memory polymers are shown to switch between strong, secure attachment and gentle, silent release when heated. By combining programmable geometry and material response, these adaptive fasteners outperform commercial systems in strength and noise control, enabling new solutions for robotics, medical ...

MEMS BASED BRIDGE MONITORING SUPPORTED BY IMAGE-ASSISTED TOTAL STATION [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2019
Abstract. In this study, the feasibility of Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS) accelerometers and an image-assisted total station (IATS) for short- and long-term deformation monitoring of bridge structures is investigated. The MEMS sensors of type BNO055 from Bosch as part of a geo-sensor network are mounted at different positions of the bridge ...
