Ferromagnetic models for cooperative behavior: Revisiting Universality in complex phenomena

open access: yes, 2013
Ferromagnetic models are harmonic oscillators in statistical mechanics. Beyond their original scope in tackling phase transition and symmetry breaking in theoretical physics, they are nowadays experiencing a renewal applicative interest as they capture ...

Utilization and imitation behavior following right parietotemporal lesions

open access: yesRinsho Shinkeigaku, 2011
A 65 year-old man showed bilateral, but more marked on the right, instinctive grasp reaction, utilization and imitation behavior after a right parietotemporal lobe infarction. Attention disturbance, left unilateral spatial neglect, and constructional disturbance were also observed. Fluid attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) MRI revealed high intensity

Gourd‐Inspired Design of Unit Cell with Multiple Gradients for Physiological‐Range Pressure Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Gourd‐shaped micro‐dome arrays with coordinated modulus, conductivity, and geometric gradients co‐optimize sensitivity and linearity in piezoresistive tactile sensors. Under pressure, a solid upper dome embeds into a porous lower dome, triggering rapid contact‐area growth and series‐to‐parallel conduction, enabling unsaturated, intensity‐resolved ...

Delayed imitation of lipsmacking gestures by infant rhesus macaques (Macaca mulatta).

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
Human infants are capable of accurately matching facial gestures of an experimenter within a few hours after birth, a phenomenon called neonatal imitation.

s‐Orbital Mediated Metavalent Bonding Enables State‐Of‐The‐Art n‐Type AgBiSe2 Thermoelectrics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metavalent bonding (MVB) underpins the exceptional property portfolio of chalcogenides. Typical MVB solids are mainly found in p‐bonded systems. This work reveals that MVB can also be formed with s‐p orbital interactions upon forming a single‐electron σ‐bond, as exemplified in AgBiSe2.

The Cuttlebone Blueprint for Multifunctional Metamaterials: Design Taxonomy, Functional Decoupling, and Future Horizons

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cuttlebone‐inspired metamaterials exploit a septum‐wall architecture to achieve excellent mechanical and functional properties. This review classifies existing designs into direct biomimetic, honeycomb‐type, and strut‐type architectures, summarizes governing design principles, and presents a decoupled design framework for interpreting multiphysical ...

Associations between film preferences and risk factors for suicide: an online survey.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Several studies indicate that exposure to suicide in movies is linked to subsequent imitative suicidal behavior, so-called copycat suicides, but little is currently known about whether the link between exposure to suicidal movies and suicidality is ...

Bioactive Conductive Ti3C2Tx‐Ce Hydrogel Facilitates Spinal Cord Injury Repair Through ROS Scavenging and Mitochondrial Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bioactive conductive Ti3C2Tx‐Ce hydrogels with with scavenging ROS and alleviating neuronal mitochondrial dysfunction are exploited for SCI treatment. This functionality is attributed to interfacial activation modification of Ti3C2Tx with Ce3+ ions to in‐situ form Ce(OH)x‐mediated protective layer, which is beneficial to enabling stable intracellular ...

Revealing the Hidden Role of Cd in p‐Type Mg3Sb2: Enhanced Thermoelectric Performance by Grain Boundary Segregation Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The hidden role of Cd segregation at grain boundaries is revealed in p‐type Mg3Sb2 by atom probe tomography and other advanced characterizations. Grain boundary Cd enrichment suppresses the SbMg+ hole‐killer formation and lowers potential barriers, enhancing electrical conductivity.
